Mr. Byrd, Mr. Hellard, and Mr. Ebert are the teachers who try to keep our sophomore and junior boys physically fit. Alternating health and physical education during the five school days, the boys learn a little about the diseases of the systems of our bodies, how to prevent them, and how to keep in shape. Among the required courses a student must have to graduate from Jefferson are four years of physi- cal education. Our physical education department has three main objectives: to provide opportunities for participa- ' tion in physical activities that will result in educa- tional experiencesg to develop the organic systems of the body so that each student may live at his highest levelg and to develop skills in activities with favorable attitudes toward play that will carry over into future careers and leisure hours.
