Included in its program are basic math, practical math, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and business math. We also have programmed courses in. solid georrnetry, algebra II, and advanced mat . This year has been a great year for our science department, and for the science stu- dents here at Jefferson. After many years we have finally received a long awaited and very much needed modern science laboratory with the latest furniture and equipment. Mrs. Margaret Brewer Home Economics F.H.A. The Science Department was most fortunate to have installed this year new lab facilities. All five of the science rooms and the office received new work tables and modern electrical and water hook ups. The new labs helped make physics, chemistry, and bio- logy even more interesting for the science students. Top: Judy Martin, Ann Kulp, Trena Bush, Becky Broyles, Vaun- da Cress, Tamara Booth, and Cheryl Byrd were members of the advanced biology class anticipating nursing careers. Here they were studying the many parts of the human body. Bottom: Winston Baldwin, Barry Doss, Martha Leech, Charles Mc- Kay, John Carter, Carolyn Crigger were working diligently in the physics lab as lVIr. Mr. Frank 0. Smith Government To graduate from Jefferson two units are required in history. American history is taken in the junior year and govern- ment in the senior year. We have a very capable staff of his- tory and government teachers. Under the leadership of our history teachers we gain a full knowledge of the government of Virginia and of the United States. We learn about explorers and other famous people who founded, explored, and settled our free nation. We learn more about how it is run in our government class. One of the big events of the school year in this department was the trip to Wil- liamsburg, which was open to all students, here at Jefferson.
