English, the largest department at Jeffer- son has this year added a Pilot Study to the curriculum for the sophomores. World Litera- ture is the basis for the reading, and speech and composition are emphasized to help the student to become more articulate in the use of his language. For the second year, the English depart- ment sponsored the Fine Arts Festival in February. This consisted of a week of as- semblies on the various phases of music, art, drama and English. English department faculty members were also advisors for our three school publica- tions. All of our English teachers emphasized composition, literature, and word usage. 1 T Guidance Margaret Brown Physical Education GUIDANCE OFFICE Miss Brown offers guidance to a senior about College. Whenever we have a problem, whether is small or large, we can depend on our guidance counselors to give us good advice. They are always willing to help us solve our problems pertaining to school or to college in the future. Mr. White, our princi- pal, also does his share in guiding students. This year has been a great year for our science department, and for the science stu- dents here at Jefferson. After many years we have finally received a long awaited and very much needed modern science laboratory with the latest furniture and equipment. Mrs. Margaret Brewer Home Economics F.H.A. The Science Department was most fortunate to have installed this year new lab facilities. All five of the science rooms and the office received new work tables and modern electrical and water hook ups. The new labs helped make physics, chemistry, and bio- logy even more interesting for the science students. Top: Judy Martin, Ann Kulp, Trena Bush, Becky Broyles, Vaun- da Cress, Tamara Booth, and Cheryl Byrd were members of the advanced biology class anticipating nursing careers. Here they were studying the many parts of the human body. Bottom: Winston Baldwin, Barry Doss, Martha Leech, Charles Mc- Kay, John Carter, Carolyn Crigger were working diligently in the physics lab as lVIr.
