The first year they challenge charcoal, pastel, tempra, Water color, and ink, while studying still life, figure drawing, perspective, lettering, commercial art, pottery, etc. Advanced students Work more in detail, and also try their hand at oils. A number of Jeffer- son students entered their classwork in the AAUW Roanoke Area Artists Exhibition at Heronimus and received recognition. Melanie Jo Wi1kes's Wash Day was selected best in the show and she received a scholarship. Emily Wirs- ing's tempera painting of the alley Won second place. These advanced Art students, Fred Harris, Donna Dooley, Judy Woodyard, Cseatedj, and Jane Mattox and George McCathern Cstand- lngj, are working on their individual projects.
