Jefferson, our town, begins a day as does every typical American townmslowly, along highways and streets occupied only oc- casionally by a few early risers. Then as alarm clocks continue to plague the slumber of hundreds of heavy headed citizens, the wheels of a fast moving, hard working municipality slowly begin to gain momentum. Everyone seems to be in a hurry with somewhere to go or some- thing to do. Corners that held the quiet of dawn only minutes before are transformed like magic into harbingers of chaos and confusion. Noises of every description- from solitary footsteps down an early morn- ing street to the maze of sounds when the day has started- -- Then, finally, the tempo increases to the torrid pace of a hustling, bustling, magic- moving city, and another day is under way4 a town awakes. 8:10 A. On Classroom Avenue, just oil' Busy Boulevard, there are hundreds of private parking places for Jefferson eitizens. Faith- fully standing as long as the building itself, each parking place has had seores of different. occupants. And still they stand, holding the paraphernalia of the present while awaiting the year to eoine and remembering the years that have passed. These parking plaees are used for a huge variety of things- dumping ground for everything from eoats and searfs to last year's report eard, dressing rooms for powdering noses and repairing smeared lip- stiek, luneh rooms for that between period snaek of peanut butter and eraekers, and meeting spot for discussions about that all important thiiig---f-homework. Then, too, these parking plaees are grand spots to stop and gossip with the kids or maybe that special someone. No matter what use they are put to, they always seem to serve the purpose. just a door or two up Main Street near Busy Boulevard is our town's modern up-to- date Clinic. Here the eitizens of Jefferson The 3.-00 Ruxh may go for treatment ol any and all minor aches and pains. In our elinie, an essential part of every town, Miss Chesney swabs throats, stops bleeding noses, administers aspirin, and bandages sore lingers for siek jeffites. Our faithful t'doe might not always be as gentle as wt-'cl like, as can be deteeted in john Fay's expression, but nevertheless, she heals the ailment.
