IT all seems funny and shorT-lived now, Those years aT JDHS. When you Try To remember, The images come Thick and fasT and The faces are blurred, and iT hurTs a liTTle To Think ThaT Things will go on wiThouT you. IT all wenT so fasT, and you didn'T realize ThaT you had so liTTle Time unTil suddenly iT was over, and all The Things you Took for granTed for so long are no longer a parT of your life. The years of high school run in cycles, buT This was your own special cycle, and iT seems dif- ferenT and personal and, now ThaT iT's over, very precious and brief. There were The mornings coming To school, and waiTing ouT on The fronT lawn for The firsT bell . . . The dew sTill on The grass, The sound of laughTer and Talk, The early-morning freshness. There were classes filled wiTh sTudenTs and The smell of ink and The shuffling of feeT, The sinking feeling when you were called on and couldn'T answer, and ThaT smug, fine feeling when you had sTudied and knew all The answers. There was ThaT Teacher you iusT couldn'T seem To geT along wiTh, and The one who frighTened you a liTTle, and The one you liked whose classes were inTeresT- ing and who made iT easy To learn a loT. Memories are cheap, They come easy . . The boy you yearned over for so

many monThs or The girl you walked To class buT never QOT The courage To ask for a daTe . . . ThaT wild, wonderful feeling when one of our backs goT The ball and ran for a Touchdown while The crowd lumped To Their feeT and screamed and looked aT each oTher grinning happily . . . The downhearTed way The Team walked off The field when we had losT . . . The noisy, happy pep rallies . . . The good days and bad. Around us in The ciTy people wenT To work in offices and in consTrucTion crews and gas sTaTions and oil com- panies, and someTimes we could hardly waiT To finish school and geT ouT inTo The world. There were Times when algebra seemed unbearably dull and Julius Caesar and MacbeTh bored us and we wanTed To sTarT living life insTead of iusT reading abouT iT. BUT There were oTher Times when Things were going well for us and life seemed good, and we wouldn'T Trade a minuTe of iT now. All The crushed hopes and wild hopeless dreams and Those mo- menTs of crisis fade inTo The happy, brighTly-colored, noisy memory of school life. The sad pleasant sound of The luke- box mingles wiTh The swirl of faces and places and nighTs and days and you are a capTive of memories.
