TAB LE OF CONTENTS Anniversary Administration Faculty Classes Organizations Sports Features School Life Advertisements ,Anniversary In 1926 the doors of jefferson Davis Senior High School were opened to the boys and girls of the North Side for the first time. Twenty-five years later we pause in our work of picturing life in this building in 1950-'51 to pay our respects to six teachers who entered the building with those first students and who are still here: Miss Ethel MacKenzie, Miss Helen Mims, Mrs. Ferne Dansby Jennings, Miss Bernice Sanderson, Miss Luta Buchanan, and Miss Maude Martel. Also we salute the athletic teams, the BEAUVOIR staff, and the pep squad of a quarter of a century ago. Finally, we proudly present to you for the first time our name JEFFERSON DAVIS SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL inscribed above our front door and the latest addition to the building. They began the work with a plan, a plan they hoped would, when it was carried out, picture to you now and in later years, one year in your life at jefferson Davis. Lenelle, our editor, drew the plan. Assistant Editor, Jo Ann, captured important events in your school and social life. Two very capable photographers, Tom and Leonard, made pictures here and there. Our artists, Shirley and Tommie, left imprints of their artistic touch on many pages. Efficient Sarah, Mamie and Dorothy classified, arranged and rearranged class panels so that you might appear in your proper place. Sports-loving Lillian and james selected the best in sports, and Maxine worked hard and long to picture all the groups into which you organized yourselves. Industrious Margaret, Billy and Douglas sold ads to meet expenses of the book. For our errors, we ask forgiveness, for any accomplishments, we covet your commendation. Main- Suite 117-K. 3-41408 Houston, Texas Miss Lenelle Bassett Jefferson Davis High School Houston, Texas Dear Miss Bassett: Asking me to select ten of the most beautiful girls, of which there are so many in your school, is indeed an honor. From the forty-two photographs submitted, any one of which was eligible, I have finally made my selection: , 1. Ladelle Osman 2. Aline Williams 3. Barbara Stovall h. Lola Lee Tolar 5. Bernice Grimes 6. Betty Kennedy 7. Darlene Turner 8. Maxine Crenshaw 9. Lenelle Bassett lO. Jo Ann Dee The method used was largely a point system derived for my own use. The task was great, but enjoyable. Very truly yours, Earl R . Gilbert Editor's note: Forty-two photographs were submitted for the beauty section this year. As a preliminary, the pictures were judged by a committee composed of faculty members and representatives of the student body. The beauty contest is not based on popularity, but on the merits of the photographs alone. The entire group of pictures was taken to Mr. Earl R. Gilbert, of the Houston Camera Club, who selected Davis's ten most beautiful girls. y Ladelle Ommn Barbara Stovall Lola Lee Tolar Aline William!
