The purposes of the organization-to promote inter- est in school, to foster good fellowship. and to encourage seholarshipgare realized as the girls cheer the athletic: teams in victory and defeat and as they set and maintain high standards within the organization. BY PHOTOGRAPHY IN HOUSTON I LAMAR HOTEL KN DALLAS I 1500 CEDAR SPNNGS M155 page Marie hgnania m ron wonw . noe summr Ave. Jefferson Davis high School houston, Texas Dear Miss 'dananiaz The problem of iudging the ten most beautiful girls from the photos graphs you brought me, has been a difficult one. First of all, being a photographer, T realize that in many cases these photographs do not 'do the girls justice. lt is extremeiy difficult to capture the vibrant personality. my decision, therefore, is tempered by the iimi-tations of the photographs themselves. ln case you are not familiar with the manner used by iudges in reaching their decision, you might find it interesting to Know my method, to try it yourself, and to decide at the end whether the decisions are good. l generally' take a small card and place it over the face of each girl, showing the area from the eyebrows up, nothing else. l then rate the print on the beauty of the forehead, the hair and the brows. The card is then shifted to hide the tip of the nose upward, and a similar decision is made on the attractiveness of the mouth, the teeth if they show, the shape of the lower part of the face and the grace of the neckline. Two cards are then used to hide everything except the area not before examined, hiding the eyebrows and forehead and the mouth. The eyes and nose are then carefully scrutinized and points mentally awarded in this manner. Removing the cards, the entire ensemble is now Studied, carefulJN keeping in mind the limitations imposed by the too dimensional process of photography. The regult is as nearly a iust opinion of the physical merit of each subject as l can devise, but it still lacks the all-important asset of personal vivacity and charm. Therefore, the choices which l have made from a structural viewpoint might not coincide with your opinion of the girls in person. Very often, throughout life, we meet and know people who are beautiful in our eyes because of character, personality or mannerism, when the structural beauty of face does not iustify that opinion. vlarm congratulations on these attractive young ladies who will represent beauty in your school.
