Dedication Mlmmm l The dedication of a yearbook is an honor which should be given only to the one who deserves it. We have decided to dedicate this edition of the Jeffersonian to Donald Hughes. Don was born in Poughkeepsie, New York on November 26, 1952. He was married to his wife, Sue, in 1974, and they have a daughter, Sarah, age 2. Don is a graduate of Jefferson Community College, Dutchess Community College, and Buffalo State. Don came to JCC in September 1978 as Director of Student Activities and Cultural Affairs. He is also adviser for the Student Government Association and the Jeffersonian. Don is responsible for the many activities that take place on campus. He is a very helpful and understanding person and will give a helping hand whenever needed. The staff of the Jeffersonian and the student body take this opportunity to thank Don for the sup- port that he has given us throughout the past years. I! is our 20th Commencement. The transformation from the humble beginnings in temporary quarters at the former Lansing Street School to the present campus and excellent programming is astonishing. Opposing this sense of well being on this special anniversary date is the reality that American education is facing severe criticism. The National Commission on Excellence in Education and other groups of equal stature have clearly shown that educational effectiveness is declining at the very time technological change is rapidly escalating the educational requirements to be able to function in society. This College will be challenged to adapt and I'm confident that we will. Our faculty and staff have repeatedly demonstrated their unwillingness to compromise excellence. The college graduates of1984 are entering a post-industrial era economy that is currently experiencing high rates of unemployment. Your educational achievements to date provide an important competitive advantage. The dramatically different technological base of our economy will require you to learn again and to continue to learn. I wish you well and look forward to the ace omplishments of the Class of l984.
