The 1982 graduates of Jefferson Community College, like members of each of the seventeen previous graduating classes, will face challenges that are new and different from those which confronted earlier alumni. All of the major issues of the day, both domestic and international, seem very closely tied to the desire on one hand to continue and expand governmental services while keeping taxes at a tolerable level. The experiences we have wit- nessed in recent months wherein governmental expenses have been reduced at many levels clearly demonstrate that adjustments will be a struggle and successful results difficult to achieve. Public higher education will not be exempt from having to defend its budget requirements with vigor and skill in order to maintain excellence Compromise in the quality of the educational offerings at Jefferson Community College is not an acceptable alternative Required changes during the 19805 will have a positive side; that is, the development of opportunities for you and the other graduates of 1982 to apply your talents and energies in pursuing your career opportunities. Best wishes and sincere congratulations to each member of the class of 1982. John T. Henderson President

Orientation Day, August 31, 1981. was a busy day enjoyed by all who attended. New students were treated to a slide show of campus faces and places, starring hlrving as tour guide. Three micro-seminar sessions followed, and they provided a wide variety of topics of interest for new and re turning students The highlight of the day was an all-campus picnic, attended by students, faculty. and staff, with the faculty doing the cooking. Great entertainment was provided by the Micheal-Mead Band of Watertown, adding the finishing touch to the fes- tivities. Maureen Johnson
