Text from Pages 1 - 92 of the 1980 volume:

TO THE CLASS OF 1980: The 1980's are now upon us and pose many educational challenges that are different from those Jefferson Community College faced in previous years. During the 60's and 70's, the College moved from infancy to a well-established campus with the physical plant and instructional resources to support the post-secondary educational needs of this area. This year the athletic fields and tennis courts will be available to our student body and other residents in this area, providing a resource that has been needed over the years. Enrollments have already stabilized, and the greatest task to be undertaken will be that of adapting and improving the programs of the College in order to meet the needs of a more educationally-divergent student body. I look forward to the decade of the 80's and applying our institutional strength and flexibility to the changes that will emerge. Sincere best wishes for continued success to all who will become alumni of Jefferson Community College during the 1979-1980 College year. John T. Henderson President Board of Trustees Douglas L. Seeing all of the freshmen finding their way around campus for the first time, reminded us of how we were when we were freshmeneuncertain of what to do and where to go. Looking ahead to next year, we're going to face that uncertainty again, whether it's in a new college, a new job, or another new experience. There have been a lot of great activities happen- ing for the active people at ICC. We started off the year with a coffeehouse by Randy Rice. He captured the spirit of college life with these words: College town, college town, U.S.A. It's a four year party and your Dad can pay. We all have had our share of fun this year. Maybe it was loosening up at a beer blast, showing off talent at an open mike, or just wasting time in The Hub. 77 The SGA workshop at Star Lake was a terrific ex- perience for all who participated. We learned many things about ourselves and about our advisers, toot Butord's master gave a rousing workshop on effec- tive communication and listening, and then fell asleep in a workshop the next day. Hard night, huh? As time went on, we all grew wiser. We learned to avoid 8:00 classes and to buy our books early be- fore the long lines formedi We learned that if we want to get something done the person to go to is Don Hughesi We realized that the real power in the school lay not with the administration, but with Vince and his power of the parking ticket. When the Harlem Globetrotters visited ICC, they dazzled the spectators with their basketball ability. After the show, some of the girls recommended that you should definitely get to know a Globetrotter betteri 78 All College Weekend was packed full of fun events. Speaking of packed full-remember Bar Nite at Studio One? Nite Club Night was another event. The Dates were a smash hit, and who could forget a guest appear- ance by Barbara Streisand and Donna Summer lit's un- canny how much they resembled Al and Williel. In a change of pace, we all decked out for the Semi-Formall You looked really good, guys! The Halloween Beer Blast was a blast. There were a lot of great costumes-we can only hope that they were all costumes. The Dionysians delighted us with Doubling Dealing Dastardly Dan's Devious Doing or other- wise known as Penelope's Plight. It was a melo- drama complete with a chase scene and pie fight. But don't forget that school isn't all fun We're sure everybody remembers cramming for finals. Some people didnlt even start studying until final exams week rolled around. Then the atmosphere became tense and the students on the campus be- came a very studious group of people. 79 80 There are many of us who wish that our time at JCC could be longer. We will all take with us many fond memories of our time here. There are so many people on this campus that really care about the students and it's this quality that makes Jefferson Community College a very special place. We would like to take the time now to thank members of the faculty and staff for taking the time to be understanding and helpful. We have grown and changed during our stay here and ICC will always hold a special place in our hearts Graduation is the culmination of a lot of hard work and determination along with plenty of fun. 0 wonder if the cannon will get painted this yearl? Traditions will carry on Our time at ICC is coming to an end. .
