PHONE 782-6250 Oflice ol the President TO THE MEMBERS OF THE CLASS OF 1965 For the past two years the members of the Class of 1965 and the Faculty have shared an exciting and unique experience. Your co- operative effort has enabled us to achieve much in our que st for academic excellence, and we deeply appreciate the support which you have given to this important unde rtaking. The occasion of our first graduation is a milestone in the short history of the College. Contrary to what some may believe, your graduation will not sever your relationship with the College. I be- lieve that the College will remain important in your lives, and that each of you will remain imhortant to the College. As members of the first graduating class you Will have greater influence on the reputation of the College than any single class to follow you. Your success will become our success, and your failure will become our failure. For the past two years you have entrusted your future to the College, and now the College must entrust its future to you. We do so willingly and with full confidence in your ability to meet the challenges which lie ahead. 6- 977cm Board of Trustees MR. BACHMAN MRS. COSGROVE Chairman Vice-Chairman 3:: MR FORTUNE MR. MORAN MR. O'DONNELL DR PECKHAM MR RHODES MR. SHAPIRO MRS. WARDWELL A few years ago several prominent people in our area saw the need for a school to further the education of many of our young people. Each year many students with great potential were unable to go on to school because of a varied number of reasons. It was then decided that we needed a com- munity college in this area. After a considerable amount of discussion, Water- town was chosen as the site of Jefferson Community College In September 1963, the doors of Jefferson Community College opened for the first semester in temporary quarters at Lansing Street School. This old elementary school took on a new look C0211 bins in the basement were transformed into a biology laboratory. Other sections of the basement were convertedlinto a chemistry lab, a physics lab and a student lounge. The small desks in the class rooms were replaced by larger editionsr Jefferson Community College began its Career with an enrollment of one hundred and ten students and a faculty of twelve members. Our enrollment increased to three hundred and sixty students in Septem- ber 1964 at the beginning of our second year of operation. The faculty room has become more crowded for now we have twenty one members. The library which started out with less than fifty volumes now boasts about 4,000 volumes. We are literally bursting at the seams. We are grateful to the community leaders, the supervisors of Jefferson County and the people of the community for the educational opportunities which they have made possible for the community. We are looking forward, with great anticipation, to our new quarters located on outer Coffeen Street. FACULTY and ADMINISTRATION 4 unnm W Faculty MRS BONNEY Liberal Arts MR. BOWLES Librarian MR. No onet A similar force unites the faces of J. C C. There is the academic face of studying, the exuberant face of a high grade, and the hopeful face of a successful future. The faces of satisfaction and accomplishment, of seeing your article in print or your team victorious are also present. The oppositekthe dark face of not receiving a good grade, the depressed face of not making the team and the ostensible face of a broken rule or brash conduct-these, too, exist. Likewise the one masked force of the total experience unites them all, and this is what we have tried to present to you, the reader of the first JEFFERSONIAN. 41mm AQM Yearbook Staff EdilarJ-in-rlaief H W, , Anne M.
