the 27-19 beating they were handed by the Hornets in the second game of the season. The Jays were behind in the first half, and it looked as if they were in for their worst defeat of the year. Winning 23-20, they thrilled their home crowd. The score was 11-7 at the half, and 19-11 at the third quarter. When the sroke of battle cleared, the Jays had ad- ,ministered one of the most severe beatings given the Kewpies in many years, 24-15. The local lads journeyed to Sedalia for their next enoucnter with the Tigers. The Jays didn't get started until after the first helf was over, and they couldn't quite overcome that lead the Sedalia boys had mustered; The score was 34-29. The Jays Went to Columbia to play University High and were defeated 50-26. They entered the Sub-regional Tournament at Eldon and defeated Mack's Creek and Camdenton to qualify for the finals. They were beaten 30-25. Basketball lettermen: John Von Der Bruegge, and Dick Kasler, co-eapteins; Bill Jenkins, Kenneth Snel- len, Bert Bates, Sonny Ott, Noel Hall, Don Rob- erts, Richard Gwinn, and JPCk Rasp, manager. Girls physical education program included swimming, basketball, volley ball, soft hall, denc- ing, tumbling, aerial dart, bowling, deck tennis, conditioning exercises. The following girls took the senior life saving course: Sara Lou Grenstaff, Bette Huston,.Margaret,Linker, Marian Davis, Dickie Huggins, and Helen Jennings. The ones who completed the instructors course were: Margaret Cleiborne, Mary Applegate, Caroline Bushman, and Bette Jane Brenton. ' The boys' physical education classes haVe been altered to fit into the similar activities of the armed services. Swimming classes are held twice a week, and regular gym periois rre held twice weekly. Boxing, basketball,rope climbing, and wrestling are the main activities.
