The Sedalie' boy! proved too Much for the Red and Black as time and again they got loose for long gains' The Tigers seemed to baffle the Jays, and they hit twice before the Jays had time to check ,their advance. The score at the end of the first half was 12-0, Tigers. At the start of the third quarter the Sedalia team once again struck at their invaders, and at the end of that period the Score was 19-0. The next encounter the Jays had was with the' same Sedalia team here. This game was the only re- turn game of the year. The Jays were more awake this time,and the Sedalia boys had their hands lull. This game was one of the best games played all year as the teams were as evenly matched as they could have been. Sedalia won, 12-6. The final game of the year was played on the home field with Missouri Military Academy. From the minute the two teams took the field, the cadets dominated everything, and won 41-7. This game was probably the roughest of the entire season as there has always been a sort of rivalry between these two teams. TRACK The track season of this year was composed of only two meets. The first was with M.S.D. of Fulton which the Jays won, and the second was with Fulton High School. The Hornets won. V Track lettermen:Jenkins, Hall, Von Der Bruegge, Schepperle,Heistand,J. Keane,L. Keane, B. McDermott, Scott, Camden, Lyon, Eddy. BASKETBALL With coach Earl Stokes in the driver's seat'the 1942-43 quintet finished a good season winning ten games and losing six. The Jays were handicapped with

SPORTS FOOTBALL The 1942-43 Jay football squad was composed al- most entirely of inexperienced players that had nev- er pleyed football to a great extnnt. There were a few lettermen from the squad of last year, but most of the team was composed of players from the Simon- sen gridiron of last year. Coach Reeves, squad started the year off with a bang defeating the Missouri School for the Deaf 13-0 in a game played here. This game was climaxed by a ninety-five yard run by guard Buddy Keane on an intercepted lateral late in the fourth quarter. Jim Woodland had crossed the double line for the home team at the last of the third quarter. The extra point was made on a plunge over the M.S.D. line. The Jays, after heving their baptism of fire with the 13-0 Victory over M.S.D., journeyed to Ful- ton to play the highly touted and much praised Ful- ton Hornets.The Hornets had twenty-one lettermen from last year, and had ten of their first string men back with them; The Jays fought gamely, but that was not enough, and the Galloway County boys won 18-0. The third game was with the traditional rivals, the Kewpies of Columbia. This game wes virtually handed to the Kewpies on a silver platter. Time and again the Jays were penalized when they had made a good gain. The lone score of the game was made in the second quarter on a long pass that traveled thir- ty-nine yards and over the Jefferson City goal line. The extra point was made by a pass. In the fourth quarter Bohner ran forty-three yards for what appear- ed to be a touchdown, but it was celled back on a penalty for clipping. As the game ended, the Jays were setting up a touchdown deep in Columbia terri- torv. The Jays journeyed to Sedalia for their next game, and with their former coach, Johnny Adams, on the sidelines the Jays lost on a very wet field 25-0.

only three lettermen from last year, and none of these were regulars. They got off to a shaky start against the California Pintos,but defeated them 51- 16. Their second game was with a much stronger Ful- ton quintet, and they were beaten in the last quer- ter by a score of 27-19.The score at the end of the first half was 12-10. Upon returning home the Jays encountered a strong Sedalia squad and up to the last moment it looked like a sure victory for the Jays,but the ex- perience of the veteran Tigers was too much,and the game was won by a last minute free throw, 25-24. In their next encounter the Jays again came close to being beaten by the Versailles quintet when they noticeably slackened their defense.However the Jays tightened up in the second half and won 26-24. The Jays took Warrensburg 21-17, having some trouble with the swift moving squad they had. University High of Columbia was the next obsta- cle in.the path of the Capital Citians,but they com- bined speed and height and won 25-21. Hitting their mid-season stride, the Jays defeated the California Pintos 34-27 at California in a rough and tunmle game. The Warrensburg Tigers were the local leds'next victims, coming out on the short end of a 34-24 de- ciaion. With this experience under their belts the Jays thought they were ready to take on their traditional rivals, the Columbia Kewpies. The Kewpies had just beaten Fulton, and were out to get revenge on their enemies. The Jays surprised the Kewpies with a 6-0 lead in the first few minutes of the game. The Red and Black was never behind, and had comparatively little to worry about. The score was 22-15. The Jays'next game was with the Fulton Hornets and the Jays had their minds set on a revenge for
