SPORTS We opened the softball season the f1rst week of school by defe atlng Larw1ll 5 4 We went on to Wln 4 and to lose 4- We wonbo th games of a doubleheader from the South Whltley Bulldogs onew eek before the County Tourney wh1ch threw the Tourney 1nto a W1 de open affa1r Before these games lt was generally conceded that South Wh1tley or Wash1ngton Center would w1n We drew L.arw1ll 1n the bye and defeated them once aga1n 3 2 In the champ1onsh1p game w1th Wastungton Center we were ahead 7 5 when the game was called at the end of 6 1 Z xnmngs becausmf darkness By us1ng the score at the end of the 6th 1nn1ng VSash1n gton Center won 5 Z We placed two boys on the all tourney team They were Chappel catcher and Meyer p1tcher After the county softball tourney we held our class tourney T he jumors won th1s tourney by defeatmg the Sen1ors 1n the fmal g ame 8 5 fans and team ahke john Robert Walter our former coach rece 1ved an army d1scharge and was back w1th us after 16 months the army The boys were not able to get rolllng as expected and ended the basketball season w1th 7 w1ns and 14 losses 1nclud1ng to urnament play After los1ng the f1rst f1ve games the boys d1d get rolllng for a wh1le When the txme for the County Tourney arr1ved everyone th ought we had a good chance at the t1tle and trophy Although ourb oys played a very good f1rst half agalnst Wash1ngton Center we c ould not seem to contlnue to C11Ck The game ended wlthj C the short end of a 45 to Z9 score Whelchel was gxven honorable m ent1on for h1s tourney show1ng Season Scores Follow jefferson Center Wash1ngton Center 65 jefferson Center Roanoke 53 jefferson Center jefferson Huntlngton 50 jefferson jefferson jefferson jefferson Center Center Center Center Ar cola 5 2 Aluznm 50 Churubusco Larwxll 20 hilly 44214 - I X 1 .
