JEANNETTE HIGH SCHOOL Jeannette, Pennsylvania 1975 Gary Lee Houser December 20, 1956-July 22, 1974 epitaph epitaph epitaph epitaph epitaph epitaph epitaph epitaph epitaph epitaph epitaph epitaph epitaph epitaph epitaph Lice an incandescent sun behind cracked magenta glass a red and purple explosion and a crimson struggle separate you downy classmates of satin daydreams drifting now on a whisper of air in hazy phosphorescence between the sheen of the moon and the iridescence of Orion. Half-finished you fled this solitary and spinning rock that holds us for still a while and already your trembling fingers brush against the breath of Mars and the mist of Uranus solar cenotaphs in stellar vastness. Fled irretrievably diffused in cosmic hide-and-seek a secret and a mystery forever: Barbara Ann Turnsek April 16, 1957—April 9,1975 the sigh of blue, the song you sang, tomorrow's turn-down day the taste of eighteen and Dairy Queen cold the trickle of sun-shower wet and the prickly tingle of sun-burnt brown are your eternal secrets. What speckled butterfly would have arrested your glance what cause would have inflamed your voice whose lives you might have touched and whom you would have loved ... only you and the illuminescent glare of silence can know. The glinting fingers of Saffron Dawn will not caress your hair but I remember that you sat next to me once and that you looked at me and we laughed. I may never pass this way again that's why I want it with you. You make me feel like I'm more than a friend. Like I'm the journey and you're the journey's end. I may never pass this way again that's why I want it with you. We may never pass this way again. WE MAY NEVER PASS THIS WAY AGAIN Life—so they say—is but a game and they let it slip away. Love—like the autumn sun- should be dying, but its only just begun. Like the twilight in the road up ahead, they don't see just where we're going. And all the secrets in the universe whisper in our ears. And all the years will come and go and take us up, always up. Dreams—so they say—are for the fools and they let them drift away. Peace—like the silent dove—should be flying but its only just begun. Like Columbus of the olden days we must gather all our courage sail our ships out on the open sea. Cast away our fears and all the years will come and go and take us up, always up. way way way again. again. again. We may never pass this We may never pass this We may never pass this s s s CRW RM.
