Jn. sf tk ttachiy S Ou.r lives an a ioa 5 bright I homecoming our first homecoming weekend begins with everyone in a state of excitement, there runs a thread of great expectation not only through the seven candidates, but also through the entire student body, the homecoming dance begins the weekend festivities, the music, dancing, decorations, and food all lend to the atmosphere, next comes the game, to the candidates, the most important part, half time arrives and the name of who is to be the first homecoming queen will soon be made know, competing for the crown are seven seniors who include adrienne bober, barb eade, janie gregory, carol lawther, charlene martz, jan sabatino, and loretta spino. their escorts are sid berger, tony denunzio, john filar, waiter lyons, tony maloberti, nick rinaldi, and roland waldron. the junior attendant is laurie malachowski and her escort is randy funk, the sophomore attendant is cathy stinson and her escort is gary gregory. as each girl walks up the center of the field, all eyes on her, she undoubtedly wonders who will it be. then, after much ceremony, it is announced, from the seven candidates, barb eade will reign as queen, after long, hard hours of preparation, it is over, another chapter in jhs history closed, the student council deserves all the credit for doing all the worrying and planning, making this a memorable weekend in the lives of jhs students. library monitors A. Wendell Lovelace we, the majorettes, work hard to entertain the students and faculty at both football games and pep assemblies, during half-time shows we twirl our batons and do dance routines to such songs as the horse, bill bailey, and the magnificent seven. we have many memories of games, bus rides, parades, and plenty of confusion, we hope that next year’s squad will have as much fun as we did. 107 colorguard juniors A. Mr. Brewer reigndeer ball we walk down the stairs at the aaam’s house, forgetting the raindrops we had to dash through . . . beneath us is a glowing array of gowns and the faint smell of nosegays reaches us . . . we dance and whisper and smile, then sit down and enjoy our dinner . . . seven beautiful but nervous girls leave us to prepare for our annual reigndeer queen contest . . . each candidate flashes a smile while a shaking hand reaches into that little glass bowl for what they pray will be an easy question . . . they answer, smile, and walk off stage to silently hope for the crown and roses . . . we sit with fingers crossed, all hoping our choice will reign . . . nina rankin’s hands fly to her face and cathy dilorenzo’s eyes fill with tears . . . the other candidates rush to hug nina, our reigndeer queen, and cathy, her maid of honor . . . then these two are whisked off to receive their flowers and smile as flashbulbs go off. . . coats and capes and bunny furs are put back on . . . the last car door closes, but not on the memory of this night ... it will always remain . . . ’72 experience here it is, friday, november 14, the night of our sophomore class party, it seems like we have been getting ready for months! the psychedelic posters, strobe lights, and wild dancing really add to the electrifying atmosphere, the entertainment is especially funny—the boys modeling girls’ clothes makes us all laugh, here comes the darals”— they’re fantastic! just listen to them sing that’s a no-no!” we finally get the food, let’s see—eggsalad sandwiches, pop, pretzels, and chips, this tastes great! ah, time to go already, this surely has been a 72 experience!” we can hardly wait till next year! V. u. 71st street discotheque it’s finally november 7, the night of our junior class party, we’ve been waiting for so long! the decorating committee really did a great job. we can psych out in a wild atmosphere! our entertainment has to be the best that j.h.s. ever had. just listen to the terrific groups, the persuasions” and dead on arrival.” the comedy skits are something else! we’re laughing so hard that we probably won’t even be able to eat. the smell of food reaches our noses, though, and our mouths are watering, mmm! chipped ham sandwiches and brownies! it all tastes delicious! there is more dancing and psyching out until time to leave, how can our senior class party ever compare? i guess we’ll just have to wait and see for ourselves, we hope it will be as good as this year’s was! we finally made it to our last class party, everyone surely looks like they’re having a blast! that spaceship in the middle of the floor really symbolizes 70 in motion!” the black light shining on psychedelic posters gives a wild, glowing effect, now we go to watch the entertainment, check out romeo and juliet”—we wonder when that version was written! the laugh-in leaves us all laughing, we move back to the cafeteria to eat. hmm! hot roast beef sandwiches, pretzels, chips, and pop—that sounds good to us! we only have a few minutes left, even though it’s our last class party, we surely enjoyed every minute of it! ’70 in motion what a perfectly beautiful evening! as we ascend the stairs of the greensburg country club, a sudden rush of excitement fills our hearts, the decorated ballroom strikes us with its stunning elegance and the chatter and laughter of all the couples fills the air. we dance to the wonderful music provided by the wax museum until we are thoroughly exhausted. refreshing ourselves with a cool glass of punch, we watch flashbulbs flicker continously as picture after picture is taken to preserve the marvelous memories of this outstanding evening, as midnight draws near, the grand march begins, led by the officers of the junior and senior classes, we make our way to the post prom . . . only then will our evening be spring ecstasy here we are at lakeview where the atmosphere is more casual, the boys are taking off their jackets and bow ties and the girls are removing their gloves and shoes, are we allowed to go through the food line twice?” now, the action is switching to the stage where our hypnotist for the evening is busy giving instructions to those under his spell, if those kids only knew what they are doing! one of the groups is playing and we start to dance, by the way, how long is this group supposed to stay? the mood switches to a soft one as brenda and the tabulations sing dry your eyes” and stay together, young lovers” we can see the hours of early morning creeping up on us. the end has come, as we gather our flowers, ties, and shoes we slowly walk out with memories filling our minds of our 1970 prom, the spring ecstacy. so this is what we stayed up all night for! last minute pulling, running out of tape, and curious neighbors, just for this day; our day; senior class day. the cars really look nice, so many different colors, and each with its own original idea, as we get into the cars for the parade we cross our fingers and hope that ours will be the one judges will pick to ride in the picnic parade tomorrow, we anxiously await the winners to be announced, third place, judi hovance; second place, tom baker; and first place, ed donaldson. already we think that we shall not forget this day, and it is only the beginning . . . there’s a place for us . . . today the place is our auditorium, we walk in happily thinking this is our class day, we’re not sophomores or juniors, we are seniors and we are proudly presenting i am curious (70).” those of us backstage are silently praying that everyone will laugh and enjoy what we’ve taken months to produce . . . laughter . . laughter . . . again and again while tears of joy and relief flow backstage, sam is out there laughing for us and sid is eating his yogurt. . . who can forget them? ed and adrienne present the academy awards this year and again everyone is laughing . . . laughing, and now the finale ... we all join hands and the entire class of 1970 sings our theme song, somewhere” and there is crying . . . crying ... we walk out of the auditorium as millions of memories flash through our minds . . . then the juniors become seniors and there is no longer a place for us” in that auditorium. i am curious ’70” graduation june 3, 1970—the night we seniors have been waiting for. throughout our assigned rooms we hear cries of help me get my cap and straight!” and which side does our tassel hang on?” all this scurry and fuss adds to the excitement of this special evening, it is finally 7:30 and we are lining up for the processional, we really try our best to make an impressive entrance, carefully remembering the instructions at practice, is everyone in? all these introductions and speeches —when do we get our diplomas? our row is next, when our names are called we accept our diplomas from mr. abraham, shaking hands and smiling, shortly we hear the recessional begin and thus our lives begin too. „f num H PrmtMjIlMnu l t tp VSrttify llh.il Jrtj 0“Griffiths '‘i.i h.i «.iti«(.i(!i rn| •f Ditrdno ft iTimfii at Ifanufttf ia thr fnmmdl iuitr i is;ll . . and the last bus rattles down the hill as the 1969-70 school year comes to a close, our minds are filled with thoughts, both happy and sad, as we leave j.s.h.s. for the new sophomores is a feeling of great expectation and the excitement of finally attending senior high school, the new juniors have completed the first rung of the ladder and are anxiously waiting to see what the second has in store for them, the new seniors have finally reached their goal ... it is now their turn to be the big ones, as for the graduates, our lives are merely beginning, whether the futue holds college, military service, or marriage, our success depends upon each individual, yes, we shall never forger j.s.h.s., the faculty, administration, and all our wonderful friends, may the new principal receive the respect due him and maintain a fair but firm hand as mr. kerr has, all the years he’s been with us. best of luck in 1970-71!
