Lam • -.1 ■ ary There are. I think, happy memories in your minds of the past year at JSHS. We hope that as you read this book you will recall more of those special moments. I can truthfully say that I will always remember and treasure my high school years as three of the best years of my life. It will not be easy to leave Jeannette Senior High School and all the friends made while here. To the ‘future” Juniors and Seniors and especially to the Class of “69” 1 sincerely wish all the luck and happiness in whatever you may do in the future. Plush seats in the auditorium, a big gym, spacious shower rooms, and a cafeteria. Bov. are we living! Hope the juniors and seniors aren’t too rough on us. Wait until they hear us yell at the first pep assembly. They’re going to like us. (We hope)” laM I mil 9 This year the Jeannette Senior High School students welcomed Yolanda Macua as their foreign exchange student for the 1968-69 school term. Yolanda’s “American family” was Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kritzer and their children Susan, David, Bonnie, and Rodger. Yolanda's home is in Bilbao, Spain. Besides her father and mother, Senor and Senora Jose Maria Macua, she has a brother Jose and a sister Marie Beatriz. Yolanda, a member of homeroom 206, was enrolled in the general course and her favorite subjects were languages and economics. Her course of study at JSHS was made up of home economics, sales, biology, American history, American government, French III, economics, general F.nglish IV, and physical education. Her extracurricular activities were American Field Service, French Club, and French Honor Society (vice president). Yolanda’s pastimes included reading, music, television, and basketball. Her favorite food was apple pie. Upon her return to Spain, Yolanda will attend a university to study psychology. The student body of Jeannette Senior High Sclhool would like to thank Yolanda for brightening up the halLs of JSHS and wish her success in her future years. 12 13 14 Sophomores ‘'Sophomores. Sophomores, have you heard? Javhawks. Jayhawks is the word.” And that's just what we are now. September brought our invasion of the hallowed halls of JSI1S. Some of us were seen buying tickets for i the rumored elevator and others, walking into the wrong class. Hut. soon we were oriented to the regular Routine at JSHS and also to our schedules. One of our first offir-ial lnyyjjj yylwwreMww eecleelsiww lllsl officers. After a short campaign and election, the result were announced. Gary Cray was chosen as President, Sheila Washington as Vice President, Cindy Bostick as Secretary, and James J. Faulk as Treasurer. Along with | Vour da® officers we selected “Cod, grant us the wisdon , ;today to earn the goals of tomorrow. as our Class Motto, a white carnation tinted blue as our Class Flower, and powtler blue and white as our Class Colon “Autumn Fantasy” was the theme chosen for our first Class Party. With the aid of our class sponsor, Mrs. Owens, we completed our plans. The annual Reign Dear Ball came and went. And I afore we knew what had happened, we were ordering our class rings. The time had down quickly, and w realized that soon we would be upperclassmen. Upperclassmen, a dream soon to come true. HOME ROOM 101: TOP SITTING Jeff Bishop, Karen Bossart. As seniors, we have manv memories — some good, some bad — to take with us when we leave. Some highlights of this year for us were: the exeiting football season with our first win over Hempfielcf; our class party, “An Evening in Venice, and its unforgettable entertainment; the first six page edition of the “Oscar”; the Junior-Senior Prom and the Post Prom; class clav and its activities; the Senior banouet; and finally. Com me ne'e men t. Frank Gray, president; Bill Hoffman, vice-president; Mimi Chiappinni, secretary; and John Wizzard, treasurer, planned our Senior activities witn the aid of our class sponsor. Mr. Carl Davis. Our class motto, “Give us the match of knowledge and we snail start the fire of success,” has remained with us during our stay at JSflS. Our class colors are mint green and white and a white carnation tinted mint green is our class flower. Commencement is not only the end of our years as students at JSHS, but it is also the l eginning of new lives with added responsibility as future leaders of our nation. To those who have taken it, it means utter chaos during the final days before the paper had to go to press. Somehow the staff managed to accomplish everything. To turn out an edition of the J.S.H.S. Oscar, numerous jobs must be completed. First, the staff must gather enough information. Then, the writers transform the news into stories which are typed bv the typists. The editors prepare their dummy sheets and collect whatever pictures that will appear on their pages. The dummy sheets are sent to the printer. Several days later, the printer sends back the first copy for the editors to proofread. After the papers are delivered by the printer, they must be folded and prepared for distribution. Besides the work that goes into producing the Oscar, the stafT has a few relaxing moments when different “operations are performed. The staff wishes to express its sincere appreciation for all the aid our sponsor, Mr. Stinebiser has given us. The decorations prepared by the junior class, the girls with their bouquet of flowers and their escorts created the atmosphere for another successful spring activity. 131 For the Senior Class of 1969 it was the end of the excitement of being seniors. Our Senior Day will bring back memories of our hard work in the wee hours of the morning in preparation for the decorated car parade which consisted of approximately fifty cars. The difficult task of judging the cars fell upon Mr. Kerr, Mrs. Owens, Mr. Volk, and Mr. Borrelli. The drivers of the winning cars were Doris Young, Sandy Damico, and Carol Carvas. The car parade was followed by the senior luncheon with more to come . . . 135 136 . . . and then the Senior Review — and what a show! Sherry’s quick chance, the Group. Laurel and Hardy, the other acts, and finally the “Impossible Dream” brought on mixed emotions as the seniors departed from the auditorium and the juniors moved into the center section. It is now time for the class of 1969 to leave. Leave J.S.H.S. and all the hard work and learning, and also the fun and good times that went along with it. Some of us will go on to college, while others find a job, get married, or go off to the service. But — no matter what we do, we will always take along with us fond memories of our high school years. We sincerely hope that future J.S.H.S. students can some dav say the same.
