FERRY GLENN PLANNING FOR A GROUP CONFERENCE Two of the most important persons in Jeannette Senior High School are Miss Elsie Fontanella and Mr. James Sacriponte. Sometimes they offer their advice with a friendly smile and other times with a very serious face. But either way they help guide those who are uncertain of what course to take, what kind of a job they'd be suited for, or which colleges to apply to. We thank them for the tremendous job they do. My dear friends. This year spent among you, thanks to the American Field Service, is for sure the greatest of my youth. My American family— especially my brother, Richard Terrill—has given me much of its time and freedom to show me the American way of life, which I like so much. I really enjoyed going to your school and taking part in its activities, because of your wonderful school spirit. I shall never forget my American friends, and my heart shall always be a little in Jeannette. OFFICE STAFF Left: Mrs. Margaret Novak. Mrs. Virginia Moczydlowsky, Mrs. Doris Bender. Our office work is handled by three competent secretaries, Mrs. Doris Bender, Mrs. Virginia Moczydlowsky, and Mrs. Margaret Novak. They are constantly busy with typing, filing, preparing college transcripts, and performing general office duties. These efficient secretaries are always willing to help the faculty and student body with a friendly smile. STUDENT HELPERS Seated Left: Michele Deltorre. Mary Ellen Barbish. Karen Baloga. Sheila Galando, Rosemarie Virone, Clydella Nichols, Cheryl Damico. Top Left: Linda Dorohovich, Palma Manietta, Jeanelle Tillman. Kathy Paterson. LuAnn Mash. Sally Kearney. Debbie Freeman. These energetic men and women do their best to keep the school neat and clean, and are always ready to help where they are needed. Standing Left: Mr. Fred Lamolinara, Mr. Ralph Catalano. Mrs. Edna Compton. Mr. Glenn R. Brewer. Mrs. Frances Clark, Mr. John Mautino. Standing Left: Mrs. Florence Tocco, Mrs. Angelinc Divida, Mrs. Madeline Aprato, Mrs. Ann B. Loreto. Mrs. Norma Wolfe. CAFETERIA Br-r-r-r-ring! At the first ring of the bell, doors fly open and there's a mad scramble in the halls as everyone tries to be first in the lunchline. This familiar scene testifies to the good, balanced meals the cafeteria staff and the dietician, Mrs. Norma Wolfe, plan and serve for us all year. 15 Memories—we the class of “67 have many memories to look back upon. Let's take a short glimpse of the past three years. Sophomore, according to the dictionary, is a conceited and pretentious but crude and ignorant person. Could we have possibly fit this description? When we first entered the halls of J.S.H.S. a new feeling came over us, and we prepared ourselves to meet the new and challenging role of a high school student. But first we had to survive the first year of being green and new. The first week we practically tripped over our own feet trying to find our classes, and get there on time. But as we gradually got used to the routine and slowly began to fit in, the name didn't matter any more. Our class party came and went and soon the year was over. The summer whizzed by and as we returned to school we saw ourselves in a new light. We were Juniors now, a little more mature and settled down. We knew the score and were ready to face another year. Our class party was a complete success and everyone then focused his attention on class rings and the prom. On Class day we sadly watched the seniors leave, but all of us could hardly wait to hear those famous words uttered by John Bartosh for the first time, “will the new seniors please move over to the middle section. The thought of being seniors had a certain air about it, wonderful and frightening at the same time. Now who would we look up to and envy, but on the other hand we would now lead the school. Now we are seniors, quite a responsibility. This year we worked twice as hard and if a person was not biting his nails wondering where he would be accepted to college, he was worried about the draft or employment. But there were happy moments to look forward to also. We cheered so loud at assemblies that it was hard to believe it was our class. Pictures, Senior recognition. Class Party, the Prom and Awards assembly seemed to climax the year. Yes, we seniors of “67 can truly say that we have had a worthwhile experience in high school, but as we walk up to receive our diploma may we realize that these past years were only a foundation for what’s in store for us. Each one of us will go our separate ways but none of us will ever forget that the greatest years of our lives were spent within the halls of J.S.H.S. LEFT. In October, 1966. Jeannette Senior High School was evaluated. A committee of eighteen people associated w ith education, observed our classes. Among them were principals, guidance counselors, and teachers. They continued observing classes for three days. The evaluators spoke to students in the hall and the teachers in their individual class rooms. Two meetings were held with a group of selected students so the evaluators could get a student evaluation of the school within forty-five minutes instead of a few minutes in the hall. In six months we will know just how our school stands among other schools. STUDENT COMMITTEE Bottom Left. Rachel Strader, Clydella Nichols. Georginc Ciampa. Each year, at Christmas, the Jeannette Recreation Commission sponsors the annual Reigndear Queen Ball. Seven girls were nominated from each of the senior homerQoms to compete for the title of Reigndear Queen. From these seven candidates, two girls are chosen to reign as Queen and her attendant. Selected this year on the basis of poise, personality, and presentation were Annette Sunseri as Queen and Cheryl Damico as her attendant. New and more modern songs were added to the song folders this year to add to the enjoyment of those who care to listen. During the school year, the stage band participated in concerts and presented a program at the band banquet. CHORUS One of the favorite and most enjoyed organizations in J. S. H. S. is the chorus. The chorus, under the direction of Mr. David Diehl, practices hard every day to present assemblies at Christmas and Easter that the entire school population enjoys. The members of the chorus, carefully selected at the start of the school year, thoroughly enjoy their work and have a great deal of fun practicing for concerts. The schools of the western Pennsylvania district compose these organizations, which meet and rehearse for three days at one certain school. During these three days, local families act as hosts to the members, providing meals and a place to sleep. Two concerts are presented during this period and in free time members can enjoy any activities the area offers. This year district band was held at Lower Burrell and district chorus at McKeesport. COIN COLLECTORS Already in its second year as an extra-curricular activity at J.S.H.S., the Coin Club is well on its way in establishing itself. The main objectives of the club arc to study and collect coins, tokens, and paper currency, and to encourage interest in this field. One big aid to the club is to have such an avid coin collector as Mr. Joseph Robino as the sponsor. Each year students with an avid interest in art join the Rembrandt Club, sponsored by Mrs. Berta Fry. The members are encouraged in displaying their various REMBRANDT CLUB abilities and talents by discussions and drawing sessions at the meetings. A new division of the club for sophomores only, the Rembrandt “10 Club, has been started this year. One of the club's many projects this year was the making of Christmas wreaths. FUTURE DOCTORS The Future Doctors Club under the guidance of Miss Rebecca Sheerer and Dr. Kenneth Diddle is a relatively new club. It was started last year through the efforts of a few students interested in medical careers. The main objective of the club is to introduce new members to the health careers and what they offer. Their activities include a trip to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and classes in first aid. Bottom Left: Laura Gazzc, Rosemarie Chiappini. Renee Spina. Cheryl Koch. JUDY National Honor Society is a nation-wide organization opened to Juniors and Seniors who maintain a 3.2 quality point average. While scholarship is the initial consideration for membership, candidates must also satisfy the society’s requirements of service, leadership, and character. Since this club is an honorary rather than a service organization, meetings are infrequent and no officers are selected. This year the organization is under the guidance of Mr. Robert A. Borrelli. BOYS' SPORTS CLUB The Boys’ Sports Club is sponsored by Mr. Carl Davis. To be a member, you must be interested in sports or physical education and have a good character. The boys are taught to maintain good sportsmanship and conduct in all sports. Each year the boys participate in the annual Buttons n’ Bows game. This year the club has raised money by selling “Jayhawk” sweatshirts. The profit goes towards the buying of a gift for senior members. GIRLS' SPORTS CLUB The Girls’ Sports Club is under the capable guidance of Mrs. Kelly. The girls learn the fundamental rules of good sportsmanship and teamwork. The club sponsors the annual Buttons n’ Bows game, gives gifts to the children at Jeannette District Memorial Hospital at Christmas time, and goes bowling towards the end of the year. Money is raised by having a hat check at the home basketball games. A banquet is held at the end of the year. BOTTOM LEFT: JOYCE KUNTZ. SHEILA GALANDO. VARSITY FOOTBALL The 1966 Varsity Football Season ended with a 0-9 record. The Jayhawk gridders, despite their poor record, played to the best of their ability and displayed the fighting spirit of J.S.H.S. Under the new head coach, Tom Duff, the Jays gained much experience and did not feel that their campaign was w ithout value. Every game was fought hard with a distinct increase of spirit and effort in each succeeding game. The game with Greensburg-Salem, long-time rivals of J.S.H.S., saw' the Red and Blue go down fighting as they out-played the Lions in the first half, but lost 21 6 in the end. Despite the losing season, we are proud of our boys for the fine effort and good sportsmanship they put forth in representing Jeannette Senior High School. Jeannette’s in an uproar, hoop, hoop; Look out Pee Pees; We're the Jayhawk generation. These familiar cheers accurately describe the 1966 1967 Jayhawk basketball team. The record of the team was 9 11. Although it was not a winning season, our boys gave their best for every game and never said die. Because of this fact, the Red and Blue fans saw the kind of basketball Jeannette is known to play. Head coach Carl Davis and the entire coaching staff along with all of the boys on the team are to be commended for their fine efforts. We are the Jayhawks —and no one could be prouder. Whether on the football field or basketball court they have tirelessly cheered our boys on to victory with their lively cheers and pep tunes. Under the guidance of their new sponsor, Mrs. Janice McClain, the 1966 67 cheerleaders have worked hard in adding the final touch to sports. Their enthusiasm and boundless energy have resulted in a greater appreciation of and enthusiasm in the various sports. FOR THE SENIORS THE PAST THREE YEARS AT JEANNETTE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL HAVE NOT ALWAYS PRESENTED HAPPY TIMES, BUT THEY WILL ALWAYS BE FONDLY REMEMBERED AS A PART OF OUR YOUTHFUL EXPERIENCES. WE DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE FUTURE HOLDS IN STORE FOR US: WE HOPE IT CAN BE SAID OF THE CLASS OF '67 THAT “THEY LIVED HAPPILY EVER AFTER.” BUT NEVERTHELESS, THE MEMORIES OF THESE HALLS AND ROOMS ARE INDELIBLY PENNED IN OUR MINDS. AS WE SOLEMNLY LEAVE THE PROTECTION OF OUR SCHOOL, WE WISH TO PASS ON TO OUR PREDECESSORS THE SENIOR KEY AND THE ALREADY FADING WORDS: IF GIVEN THE WEAPON OF KNOWLEDGE, WE WILL WIN THE WAR OF LIFE. 112 EDWARDS BROTHERS.
