You cannot re-live the history which has been recorded about you and for you, except in the memories engraved in the recesses of your mind and in the pages of the book you are now reading. You can take the “foundation for life” which has been so painstakingly built by you and build upon it the castle of your fondest dreams. Your castle will endure in time in direct proportion to the strength of the foundation you built during your formative years prior to your graduation. Some of you will begin building your castle immediately. Others, because of circumstances beyond your control, may have a slight delay between the building of your foundation and the erecting of your castle. Whichever be your destiny, it is the desire of the administration that the educational foundation we have given you will withstand the ravages of time and that the qualities you build into your castle will be limited only by your dreams. 2 CONTENTS ADMINISTRATION PAGE 4 FACULTY PAGE 6 SENIORS PAGE 14 UNDERCLASSMEN PAGE 44 ACTIVITIES PAGE 64 SPORTS PAGE 98 3 ADMINISTRATION MR. Kenneth Omlor A HELPING HAND Miss Elsie Fontanella, the guidance director, and Mr. James Sacriponte, the guidance counselor, are always prepared to assist the students in making decisions about the future. During the course of the year the guidance department of Jeannette Senior High School is busy administering tests, holding personal conferences, distributing the latest information about colleges and job opportunities, and performing many other services. Upon graduation every student is grateful for his association with the guidance department. 11 INTERESTED PARENTS OFFICE STAFF The office staff of Jeannette Senior High is both efficient and pleasant. Between the jobs of preparing college transcripts, mimeographing tests, being gracious receptionists, and doing general office work, Mrs. Virginia Moczydlowsky, Mrs. Margaret Novak, and Mrs. Doris Bender manage to create a cheerful atmosphere in that rather awesome office. They are always willing to offer advice and a helping hand whenever needed, and they never fail to give a friendly smile to each student. “Good afternoon, Jeannette Senior High School. , “Is this what you're looking for? Loreto, Mrs. Angcline Divida Throughout the school we see signs of the hard work done by the efficient maintenance staff. Along with keeping the school clean, they are always willing to lend a helping hand to any student in need of assistance. In addition the students can be grateful to the cafeteria workers. These ladies, under the supervision of Mrs. Norma Wolfe, can always be counted on to have balanced meals ready for the students and teachers. We owe a great deal of thanks to these busy individuals who keep our school running smoothly. MAINTENANCE Left: Mr. Glenn R. Brewer, Mrs. Frances Clark, Mr. John Mautino, Mrs. Edna Compton. Mr. Ralph Cata-lona, Mr. Fred Lamolinara SENIORS “The happiest people are those who are too busy to notice.” The author of this quote surely must have had us, the Class of “66 , in mind when he wrote it. In our three years at JSHS we have been so busily engaged in the activities of everyday school life that we didn't realize how happy we were. Reflecting on our sophomore year, we discovered that becoming an integral part of the student body was easier than we had anticipated. Cheering at assemblies, trying to beat the bell, and racing for the lunch line gave us the opportunity to participate. Attending our sophomore class party, “Autumn Fiesta,” was a unique experience. For the first time the members of our class contributed as a whole in planning an enjoyable evening. The following year we entered JSHS as juniors. Ordering our class rings was an important event in our lives. This gave us the distinction of being upperclassmen. November rolled around, bringing with it our second class party, “Magic Moments.” The evening's entertainment was presented by the talented members of our class. Christmastime brought club parties, the annual Christmas assembly, and the Formal. At the conclusion of our junior year, we eagerly awaited summer vacation but were also anxious to return as seniors. The coming year was to present us with new experiences. The members of our class assumed leadership in the Student Council, in the various clubs, in editing the newspaper, and in organizing the yearbook. Passing out senior pictures, decorating for our last prom, and being honored on Senior Class Day meant that the end of our high school career was drawing near. But graduation was not the end, rather it was the beginning of a new way of life. Looking back we realize that it was worth the effort. IN MEMORY OUR DEPARTED CLASSMATES DORIS JEAN SPRINGER. Every homeroom nominates a candidate for Queen. As the date of the event draws near, there is an atmosphere of excitement and anxiety. To be considered as Semi-Finalist, each candidate must raise twenty dollars. The money collected is used to make improvements in Jeannette's recreation facilities. Finally the night of the big event arrives, and from the f inalists two girls are chosen to reign as Queen and her attendant. Selected this year on the basis of poise, personality, and presentation were Charmaine Spahr as Queen and Mary Louise Lula as her Attendant. The evening finally came to a close, but the Queen and her court will have many happy memories of the night for a long time. Left: Audrey Cafasso. Brenda Gross, Loraine Dinsmore, Sheila Petersen. The Jay-hawks looked for a promising season, led by a squad of eighteen lettermen, but the fate of the Hawks was one of misfortune rather than of success. Jeannette started out with a winning effort against Penn Joint and a hard-fought scoreless tie with Greensburg Central Catholic. The two exhibition games being completed, the Jayhawks were ready for Hempfield. a team which the Jays have yet to subdue. Jeannette, having received the kickoff, started by driving up field, right through the Spartans. The drive suddenly stopped and so did the Jays, for it was Hempfield the rest of the game, as Jeannette suffered a crushing defeat. The Jays then lost a one-point heart-breaker to Connellsville and also a defeat at the hands of Latrobe. The Derry game was a hard-fought contest, but the Jays just couldn't score as they were defeated by one touchdown. Against Kiski, one of the stronger teams, the Jays proved to be too much as they shot at the Cavaliers and came through with Jeannette's first Double A win in twb years. The next week the Jays were defeated by the Vikings of Ml. Pleasant and finally suffered a loss to the Lions of Greensburg. However, the Jays made Greensburg earn its win as Jeannette dominated the entire first half. Although the season was not as the Jayhawks would have liked it to be, they displayed good sportsmanship and an all-out effort. Boilom Row. Left: Kevin Rolling. Bruce Miller, Percy Williams. The 1966 Jayhawk basketball squad is truly the greatest in Jeannette's history. The team, consisting mostly of seniors, showed skill and desire to win as was never before displayed by a Jayhaw k basketball team. But much of the credit must go to our fine coach, Mr. Carl Davis, who worked hard all season with these boys, molding them into the successful team that they arc. The Jays lost their first two exhibition games by only a few points, but it was later proven that it wasn't the Jays nature to lose. The Jays then won 21 straight games, breaking the previous record of 11, and going undefeated in league play and capturing the Section II title. Winning the section in a thrilling match against Greensburg gave Jeannette a bid in the WP1AL playoffs. The first game was played at the Pitt Field House against North Hills. Gelling a rough start, the Jays came back strong in the second half to defeat the Indians. The Jays then advanced to the quarter finals held at the Civic Arena. It was here that the Jays were finally halted. Jeannette just couldn't get started and was defeated by the Steelcrs of Farrell. However, our 1965 66 squad can be quite proud of the fantastic new school records set this season. Credit must Help from Coach Davis our team with the incentive needed to go to the top. A WINNING SEASON Under the fine leadership of Mr. Charles Hursh, the Junior Varsity basketball team was led to a winning season of 14 victories and 6 losses. Losing most of their exhibition games, the Jayvecs bounced back and won every one of their league games, except for their losses at Hempfield and Latrobe. They showed great determination and drive, qualities much needed for varsity participation. With these boys at the controls, the future of basketball at JSHS should be a bright one. Everywhere they go people want to know who they are, and so they tell them, “We are the Jayhawks!” The 1965 66 J.S.H.S. Cheerleaders, under the supervision of Mr. Priolo, have added the zip, boom, bang to sports. MARY WURZELI LINDA GURNICK JEAN MAHKOVIC IN CONCLUSION Now that we, the class of 1966, have graduated, the halls of JSHS seem a little different. We will no longer be a part of the happy times to be had here in the future. But we can gain happiness just by looking back on our days together. To our successors we leave the promise of the fulfillment and discoveries that can only be achieved through memorable high school experiences. For ourselves, we are left with the promise of a new life. Although Commencement traditionally marks an end, it is actually a beginning a beginning that holds a special meaning for each of us. Time may find us gone our separate ways, but JSHS will always hold a special place in our hearts.
