After a sleepless night, we arrived at the Shelton Hotel at 3:45 a.m. Monday. Our first day began with a tour of Rocke- feller Center which ended at the R.C.A. Observa- tory Roof where a group picture was taken. After this the group left for Radio City Music Hall for a stage and screen show featuring the famous Rockettes doing a fabulous Easter Show. That evening part of the group left for the T.V. show t'The Price is Right, while the rest of us walked or shopped. Then we went to the top of the Empire State Building to see the beautiful city of lights. On Tuesday morning we left the hotel for a tour of the United Nations Building which was educational as well as interesting. During the afternoon we had free time in which to shop or get lost, Many students went swimming in the fabulous Shelton Hotel pool. That evening the group left for the St. James Theater to see Li'1 Abner, and then back to the hotel to get in to mischief! On Wednesday morning we left on a big scenic cruiser bus to tour Chinatown, the Bowery, Central Park, Greenwich Village, ending at Bat- tery Park. From there We boarded a ferry to Bedloe Island to see the Statue of Liberty. I guess our class isn't very brave because most of the kids took the elevator rather than the stairs and only the braver ones climbed to the crown. We journeyed back to the hotel by subway. That night we attended the Ringling Brothers Circus, The next morning a few were up bright and early to attend the Dave Garro- way Show. The group toured the N.B.C. studio where we got a peek at Bill Cullins and a couple of the girls got his autograph. After that we left for a three hour boat cruise around Manhattan Island. The rest of the afternoon we had free time to do last minute shopping although some attended the show Bandstand starring Bert Parks. Although we hated to leave the fun and excitement we were glad to see the great state of Maine and the taste of good Maine food and water! We arrived at Chisholm, Maine, at 8:45 where our friends and classmates met us. We wish to thank our chaperones, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Purington and Mr. and lVIrs. John Taglienti for making our trip a most successful one. 1 R c L A S S M E --..,N -4 JUNIOR CLASS OFFICERS Left to Right: Betty Thompson, Secretary, Paula Virgin. Vice President, Lovis Noyes, President, Judy Smith and Peter Smith, Class Treasurers JUNIOR NEWS During the year a Harvest Supper, a Food Sale, a Spaghetti Supper, and a Junior Prom were held. All these events were highly suc- cessful. Many juniors have participated in sports and other school functions, such as the follow- ing: Glee Club, F.H.A., Future Nurses' Club, Cheerleaders, and all sports. The three juniors chosen as members of the Student Council are: Paula Virgin, Leo- nard Ouellette, and Wayne Farrington, The three girls chosen representatives for Girls State have very good ranks, Wonderful ternate Marlene Walsh. The junior class is fortunate to number among them Patty Therrien as Football Queen and Wayne Farrington, the most valu- able football player. The junior class thanks their class officers for their contributions to the class. The Junior class is also proud of the Tiger's Growl , which the junior commer- cial students are publishing with the help of Mr. Purington and the editor, Paula Virgin. Our student council has made many im- provements in our school this year and we are represented by Bonita Chicoine and Warren Forbes, Next year we are entitled to another member making three, and by the time we're seniors we will have four from our class Working on this organization in our behalf, The basketball teams consisted of many sophomores this year. On the girls' varsity were Suzanne Ouellette, Beverly Fournier, Oli- vette Tessier, and Bonita Chicoine. On JV's were Jean McCourt, Judy Holman, Doris Be- langer, and Olivette Tessier. For boys varsity: Maurice Smith, Norris Smith, Jerome Duguay, Raymond Bizier, War- ren Forbes and Charles Crafts. On the Tiger's Growl Staff, Olivette Tessier reports for our class. February 14 was a special day in our lives, Besides being Valentine's Day, it was also the day when our long awaited class rings arrived. We were all very excited over them, and I must say Cconfidentiallyl I've never seen people so eager to part with their money. However, I think I can safely say, we are well pleased with them and shall cherish them for many years to come. The Jaydettes have only three sopho- mores, Joanna Hebert, Patty Spofford, and Bonita Chicoine. The cheerleaders have Jeannine Reed and Helen Therrien, For such little girls they surely do their share of work where pep, energy, and volume are concerned. -I am very proud to be a member of the Sophomore Class of Jay High School, and I sincerely hope our record as a class will be a shiny one. After two weeks of hectic practicing, the day had finally come when the girls would have to try out before a group of faculty members. After much debating, the following students were chosen as our cheerleaders of 1.957-58: Angie Ercolini- Head Cheerleader, Jane Ho- gan, Paula Virgin, Janet Allen, Linda Pineau, Connie Doiron, Judy Smith, and Jeannine Reed, Mention must be made of our Sophomore Sub., Helen Therrien, who was ready, after a few practices, to cheer when we needed her most. She did an outstanding job!! During football season the girls chose black slacks, white sport shirts, and orange and white warm-up jackets for their outfits, which proved to be very appealing The coming of basketball season brought new uniforms to the peppy squad, Much of this credit goes to their coach, Miss Jewetit, for without her help, they never would have had such flashy looking uniforms. Miss Jewett has spent much time training the girls in their snappy cheers and routines. During bas- ketball season they were outfitted in black and orange corduroy skirts with inserted pleats, black weskits, white turtle-neck jerseys. and black suede shoes. Our cheerleaders looked outstanding! I Not only have these girls cheered at all of our football and basketball games but they have solicited for tag days, sold school ban- ners and combs, sponsored Record Hops, and many other things, Hgers R , T I l- U., S M - -4 Snappy Hge ette Front Row Left to Right: Pat Couture, Carol Forbes, Second Row Left to Right: Patty Therrien, Bonita Chicoine, Connie Doiron, Paula Virgin, Judy Smith Lovis Noyes, Manager, Marlene Walsh, Ass't Mgr., Sandra Cook, Patty Crafts, Lorraine Rowe Olivette Tessier, Pauline Legere. GIIRLS' BASKETBALL Under the superb coaching of Mr. Taglienti. the Tigcrettes closed the season with nine vic- tories and five losses. Pat Couture and Carol Forbes, co-captains, headed the group with fine marksmanship and all-round great play- ing. With a few sprained ankles and some very hard fought battles during the season, the girls emerged in tip-top condition. The team will certainly miss their four seniors who are Carol Forbes and Patty Cou- ture, forwards, and Pauline Legerc and Jane Hogan, guards. Besides these seniors, there are fourteen other girls on the Varsity squad: namely, Patty Therrien, Paula Virgin, Con- nie Doiron, Lorraine Rowe, Betty Thompson, Sandra Cook, Judy Smith, Suzanne Ouellette, Patty Crafts, Bonita Chicoine, Olivette Tcssier Beverly Fournier, Jerry Pomerleau, Janice Foster, and Cynthia Riggs. The J.V. squad looks very promising, al- though they won few of their games this year, and we're sure they will go on to con- quer more victories for the Tigerettes in future years. la y Hgers Front Row Left to Right: Lawrence Plaisted, Steve Ridley, Coach Ouellette, Wayne Farrington Keith Cornelio, Second Row Left to Right: Roger Plante, Manager, Lenny Ouellette, Robert Hebert, Maurice Smith Patrick Ouellette, David Purington, Norris Smith, Charlie Crafts, Tony Gill, Manager. BASKETBALL The Basketball Team for the season of 1957-58 did not turn out to be so successful this year as in the past. After playing 18 games with great spirits, it only showed that competition was too great for them. But much credit can be given FRANKLIN COUNTY The Franklin County Tournament was some- thing else again. After overwhelming Stratton with a margin of 20 points we played King- field. This was a real thriller which was cap- tured for the Tigers by Lawrence Plaisted who sank a foul shot in the last 10 seconds to make the score 51-50. We hope for a better record next year, and. as we have lost only one of our first string tStephen Ridley? and have many up and com- ing players, we are sure that we will have a promising team. TOURNAMENT ship was close until the last quarter when the Eagles proved too much for the Tigers to the tune of a 22 point defeat for Jay. Mr, Ouellette also showed great spirit all through the season as coach of the boys.
