It seemed strange to be considered as upper-class- men. and good. too! No longer would we be ad- dressed as Silly Sophomoresiu We immediately started to make plans for money-raising ventures. We hope to go to New York on our class trip and we know that it takes Wig ,' money, L t Our first effort to make money was the food ' sale which we sponsored at the Norrwoek Shoe Company in North Jay. Of course. a food sale is not always profitable. but even though we didn't receive a great sum of money. the amount we did gain raised the figures in our class trea- sury. And. as the saying goes. livery penny 7- counts! The greatest success of the Junior class was the Mistletoe llopp whieh was presented lleeem- ber lf. The attendance was xery good for a re- eord hopp and a good profit was made by the tumor class. The hall was decorated with red and white crepe paper and tiilstletoe was placed above the doors and basketball baskets, liveryone there seelileml to be haxine a wonderful tiiiie. Upon entering the school. the thing we most dreaded was the thought of Freshmen Reception Day. On this day, the seniors certainly had fun! 4? Wt-'re telling you. we felt very embarassed promenading throughout every classroom, in clothes that no ordinary person would wear. but it was all in fun. On Freshmen Reception night. all students of the Freshmen class did as they were told to do. which proved to the Seniors that we were good sports. Just think. after tv' xyr this dreadful night. we were really a part of .lay High School. Now we are looking forward when we shall be Sopho- mores and receive our class rings. As Juniors. we hope to undertake the task of publishing the Tigers tlrowlf' and as seniors. we will be looking forward to our senior C7 class trip to New York City. We now realize that the school we entered was a 9 .1 19 'Q i . schoal in which sportsmanship, co-operation. and citizen- ship were all essential, and we as another t-lass will try to live up to these standards. This was due to the excellent co-operation and teamwork of both guards and forwards. Much of the credit for this successful season is due to their able coach, Mr. John Taglienti, better known to them as Tag. The Orange and Black lost their only two games to the VVilton Eaglettes, 22 to 27, and Lea- vitt, 22 to 21. High scorers for the year were Leanne Cook with 158 points, Sylvia Deane 128 points, Betty Plaisted 96 points, Kathleen Jenkins 5-1 points, and Shirley Chick 211 points. VVe are well prepared for next year, as only two varsity players are graduat- ing, Bettv Plaisted and Joan Fournier. All varsity guards will be back: Bernice Dubord, Elaine Chenard, Karen Pineau. Alice Seamon, Dolores Tessier, and Judy Mosher. VVe'll also have an excellent string of forwards: Judy Lilja, Kathleen Jenkins, Shirley Chick, Leanne Cook, Gerrie Moreau, and Sylvia Deane. Also, we must not forget to mention our managers, Priscilla Virgin and Mar- lene LaPointe. The Varsity scores for the season are as follows: JAY VS. FOOTBALL Coach John Taglienti's Jay High Tigers football team, rated as another one of the greatest in the school's history, came through with another great year. Although we did not re- tain our title as State Champs this year, we did have a fine record of T wins and one loss. Our only loss came from the Mexico Pin- tos , who knocked us down 20-6. But it didn't take the Tigers long to get back on their feet. for we ran over all other opponents with ease: scoring 289 points to their 32. Great credit goes to our fine backfield man Phil tehoo choov Boivin who was elected as the 'l'imes Most Valuable Player of Jay lligh for 19541. Truly, there is not another player that de- serves this more than Phil. The swift footed H55 lb. Junior out ran all other opponents as he st-ored more than loo points for the team. Also. we have our fine quarter back. Elmore Ouellette, who did an outstanding job and is batik for another year in Tiger Togs. Other great players in the backfield that did an outstanding job were Don Oakes. Parker Kin- ney, Jim Cornelio. and Neree Simoneau. Ends. Gilles Couture and Ron Greenleaf did an outstanding job that will never be forgotten. But we cannat close without telling you about our unsung heroes, boys such as Jim Drysdale, Bob Cushing, Clayton Jewett, Don Waite. Larry Beaulieu, Roger Perreault, Jerome Drottar. and Charles Allen. to whom goes the credit of open- ing those holes, Truly, our boys have done a remarkable job. We shall never forget them. We sincerely hope that next year we have a far better team on the fielti as well as off the field.
