N.Y. fI'0IIl July 45 .ileaclgnea .gil ide Wewa - Mr. Austin Kibbee has been awarded one of 50 Fellowships by the General Electric Company. He will attend Union College. Verna Bryant will represent jay High at Girls State, which will be held at Colby College in june. The Girls and Boys basketball squad will be outfitted with all new basketball uniforms and warmup jackets next winter. This will be in keeping with the inaugura- tion of our new gym. Those who have seen samples of the new equipment are really drooling. The very latest in modern basketball electric scoreboards will be installed in the new gym next fall, thanks to donations by our supporters and student functions. June 6 is Graduation Day, but it is the first event to be held in the new gym in spite of the fact that it is not complete as yet. New band uniforms have been purchased enabling us to have 40 nattily uni- formed players. We expect to have a 50 piece uniformed band for our games next fall. Pep Squad is to be increased to 40 this spring, and with the possible addition of the Junior High majorettes to the band, Jay High will have approximately 100 in its drills during football games next fall. Norman Doiron and Bill Perkins have been chosen to represent Jay High at Boys' State, which is held at the University of Maine. The session will last from july 13, to July 19. During this period of time, the boys will participate in electing a governor and legislature. They will receive actual experience in carrying on a state government. Their knowledge of Civics is of utmost importance. Norman Doiron is being sponsored by the Livermore Falls Lions Club, while Bill Perkins is being sponsored by the Wilton American Legion. The annual Junior Prom was held on Friday, May 2, at Murray Hall. The hall was beautifully decorated by a committee, headed by Florence Demers. The size of the crowd was quite disappointing but those who attended felt that they had a mar- velous time. Music was furnished by the famous Lloyd Rafnell's Orchestra. The vocalist, Esther Mitchell, was very well-received. The members of the Senior Class were invited guests. We hope that formal affairs will grow in popularity at H. S. This was the last dance to be held by H. S. in Murray Hall, in as much as our gym will be completed before next fall. The annual Western Maine Music Festival took place in Lewiston, on Saturday May 3. Our Glee Club, of 95 voices, took part and for the fifth consecutive year got a Superior rating. jay should be proud of this accomplishment, and much credit should be given to Mrs. Leah Peterson, the director. Another event of interest is the annual Spring Music Concert. It was held at a veritable landmark in jay High School, having been the only janitor the present The newly-formed band and Chorus gave many splendid renditions. C. with Mr. Lawrence Came, of Resort Vacations as their guide. Met Roy and Lester at Prexy's Restaurant. I failed to mention that it has been quite cold today, with a slight drizzle late in the evening. Many of the crowd are sad since we must return home tomorrow and only a few planned to enjoy the trip back. On Friday, April 25, the bus is late - our gang is all on time. Finally he comes. We all give Jim Murphy, the Shelton doorman, a rousing cheer. Itis a droopy-look- ing group that settles down for the return trip. As we approached Stamford we had a flat tire, but it was fortunate inasmuch as it enables us to eat at Curley's where we were extended real hospitality and good food too. We're off again - everyone in a good mood - much singing. We are in Westport at 3 p.m. We learn that our bus driver is Gene Royster-color blind - Rita offers him a choice of suckers - He says I'll take a pink one, as he picks out a green one. Joanna reveals to us that last night in the Shelton Hotel a lady for the cancer drive asked Richard Rowe for a donation. He puts in a penny - she says, Thank you for your generous donation. Would you like a pin, they cost 2c. The crowd has run out of steam at Devon, Conn. We stopped again in Walling- ford, Conn. It was a rather dingy place, but most of us were able to quench our thirst. Everyone is getting quite impatient even though we have 100 miles to go to Boston yet. Jeannine Deshaies has a very serious nosebleed, the second on the return trip. Miss Riley seemed quite concerned so being about four miles from South Bridge where we could take her to a hospital, we turned off the main road and took her to the Harrington Hospital where Jeannine Deshaires got immediate attention. The doctor packed her nose and after some deliberation decided that she would be well enough to continue home. Jeannine certainly got plenty of attention there with 3 nurses, an intern, and a doctor in attendance and believe it or not, they would not charge us a cent for the services for which we were grateful. Finally we were off again for good old Maine and as we neared Lewiston the spirit of our group cer- tainly was aroused at the thought of being near home. It was a happy bunch that got off the bus in Chisholm where a large number of parents and friends were pres- ent to greet us in the wee hours of the morning, namely 1:40. Thus ended a mem- orable trip which will never be forgotten. Any underclassman that fails to make plans to go on any subsequent Senior class trip should have his head examined. Ask any senior who enjoyed this trip. We would like to thank our chaperones, Miss Mary York and Mr. Daniel Al- vino, our principal, for the way they treated us. We also shall never forget how nice Miss Alice Riley, of Resort Vacations Inc., was to us. She was a peach, In conclusion, we unanimously feel that, although we would like to visit Wash- ington, D.C., it is too much of a trip. It requires an additional two days of travel, and we had all the traveling we wanted. As for sights to see, we saw more than enough during our stay in the big city. Therefore, take it from a class who has gone to New York City - it is all you would care to include on such a trip. 53 .xdfumni WHAT OUR 1951 GRADUATES ARE DOING Babbie, Albert Beaulieu, Evelyn Bergeron, Rita Berube, Gladys Breton, Emilio Couture, Aurelien Davenport, Paul Doiron, Nicholas Duval, Cecile Fournier, Adrien Fournier, Florence Fournier, Laurier Gile, Jessie Donaghy Gonnella, Virginia Gray, Althea Seamon Greenleaf, Robert Howes, Kenneth LaPointe, Beverly Legere, Aline Legere, Doris Lucas, Janice Spiller Moore, Frank Morin, Mariette Raymond, Bertrand Reed, Doris Reed, Louise Richards, Annette Perron Shank, Bernard Smith, Patricia Therrien, Paul Thomas, Conrad Turmel, Bertrand U.
