MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT It has been my pleasure to work in the Jasper School System for the past ten years, both as Principal and Superintendent. I have seen the school grow from a student body of 150 and a faculty of seven to one of 650 students and a faculty of twenty-three. I will briefly mention some of the improvements that have been made. In the school year of 1944-45, Jasper School had one bus, eleven years old, and most of the children were transported in pick- ups and stock trucks. Today, we have seven of the most modern busses in which all the children may ride in comfort -- some for a dis- tance of 23 miles, The latter part of the school year of 1943-44 the Jasper School started the hot lunch program on a small scale We began with two cooks an old discarded wood stove and about thirty dollars worth of kitchen equip ment all of which was located in a small room in the basement of the old school house Today we have a modern hot lunch room equipped with electric ranges hot and cold water refrigeration storage room and all the equipment necessary for the operation of a modem school lunch program All of this equipment which has cost roughly S4 000 O0 has cost the school district nothing It has been purchased from the savings made each year from the proceeds of the lunch program Since 1949 three very useful buildings have been added to our school plant one four room classroom building for the lower grades with the hot lunch room in the basement a garage for our bus mechanics and an agriculture building for the veterans We have also added about five acres of ground to the school site - 1 1 - 1 I 1 1 1 ' U , . . .
