TRACK In the spring of l9hY a large number of boys shoaed interest in track. A represfntive team entered the Dakota Relays at Sioux Balls, the District Track Meet at Pipestone, and the Regional Meet at Mankato. In the Dakota Relays, Jasper failed to place, but in the district meet they placed third, with vorthington and Pipestone ahead of them Dick Sexton took iirst in the hhO yard dash, Uonald Kdhlman gained iirst in the ZOO yard low hurdles, william hrickson se ond in the 880 run, Paul Hansen second in the mile, Paul Strobel fo rth in the hlO, the relay team took iourth in the 380 relay On May 22 Coach Lngen took four hovs to Mank to where they earned a total of four points Donald Kuhlman placed fourth in the low hurdles, Paul Hansen fourth in the mile, and Dick Sexton fifth in the LMO yard run S E Z QQTCQY 'i I . . . . . . . 1 'ii' 1 ia k 4 T it ' ' ilk- was FOGT BALL The l9h7 football season saw about forty football enthusiasts draw equipment, with most of them seeing action sometime during the year. Returning lettermen were nilbur Anderson, Bernard Megard, Don Haraldson, Milton Seeman, Tom Johnson, and Dick Sexton. This was Jasper's first year under their new coach, bars Overshei, and also their first year in in several years with a complete eleven man schedule. Difficulties were met in arranging a suitable schedule due to the late decision to abondon six man football. Results of the season were asffollowsz Jasper O Flandreau 21 O Pipestone 26 O Flandreau Indians 39 9 J Howard 19 32 Howard 'O O Garretson 6 7 Edgerton lb The Quartz-siters journeyed to Flandreau to made their l9h? debute. Jasper had lost their opener with a final score of 21-O. In the second game Jasper met the ripestone Arrows under the newly installed lights. The stronger Pipestone team handed Jasper their second defeat to the tune of 26-O. In the next game the nRocksn took a beating from the Flandreau Indians. The Howard Tigers came to Jasper for the Homecoming game, again defeat came to the wuartz-siters. Next Friday the Quartz-siters overwhelmingly defeated the Tigers in a return game. The last two games were the most exciting of the year with jasper being nosed out by a small margin. So endfd a year in which the Jasper eleven acquired much in the Jay of experience.

The first iive consisted of R. 5exton and Seeman.as pivot men, Peterson Anderson, and Haraldson, guards. They played a ver3 eiiectlve double-post offense which could throw a scare into any opponent. Highlights of the season Here: Pipestone Arrows at Jasper when the Quartz siters defeated an age-old rival by two points lynd at Jasper when the ever-powerful lynd team edged out a victory by only one point.
