Dennis Prechtel, Bill Hoffman, and Dave Sermersheirn won first division at the State Solo and Ensemble Contest at Indianapolis. Dennis was awarded first division for his cornet solo, Bill for his tuba-sousaphone solo, and Dave for his alto-saxophone solo. Susie Lechner won the annual I Speak For Democracy contest at Jasper High School and placed third in the county contest. .lane Sermersheim was awarded the D. A. R. Good Citizenship award. Last summer Jane was elected Governor of 1954 Hoosier Girl's State. Kenny Hopf was awarded a trip to the Annual Junior Fact Finding Poultry Conference at Kansas City, Missouri. Kenny also received the Hoosier Farm Degree at Purdue.
