A record of the years when care rested lightly on our shoulders and of a time when decisions were made for us by our parents and our teachers. Soon we shall be responsi- ble for our own decisions and it is our hope that the way we make them will help to make succeeding years more secure for those who follow us at Jasper High. In years to come, years that will show miracles beyond our wildest dreams, we shall look within this book and relive the years when life was simple and lived on one small sphere. Whatever the future may bring, we shall always cherish our days at JHS, and leave this printed record as proof to those who come after us. A blessed companion is a book—a book that fitly chosen is a life-long friend. —Douglas Jerrold MRS. J.W. First, we remember ourselves as we entered the doors of Jasper High School as Freshmen with Mr. Myron Harris as our teacher. We enjoyed a beach trip to Morehead during the spring. We added two new members during this year, Billy Collins and Herbert Collins, and lost one, Harvey Koonce. As Sophomores, with Mrs. Mcllwean as our teacher, we enjoyed a weiner roast at Spring Garden Landing. We added one new member to our class this year, Kay Howell, and lost eight, Billy Collins, Betty Grady, Karen Moore, Ann Pugh, Billy Thompson, Treacy Turner, Barbara Wethington, and Howard Wood. During our Junior year, we sponsored a barbecue supper. Mr. Myron Harris was our teacher. We took on the responsi- bility of giving a Junior-Senior banquet which was held in the school cafeteria with the Prom in the gymnasium. We added two new members during this year, Debbie Herring and Billy Joyner, and we lost four members, Elaine Adams, Robert Lee Daly, Kay Howell and Peggy Morton. As Seniors, we are busy working on our vearbook with the capable leadership of our advisor, Mrs. Colvin Joyner. We are eagerly awaiting the activities ahead; our trip to Washington, D.C. , on April fifth, the Junior-Senior Banquet, and finally the thrill of graduation. To everyone who helped us and patiently watched our progress— Thank you. May we live up to your expectations and our own dreams. LOIS MURPHY Historian 24 C.B. It was a wonderful surprise for us to find a Round Robin letter from the class of 61. It gave us a grateful sensation to learn the whats and whereabouts of our classmates. EMILY PREVOST now owns her own florist shop in New Bern, North Carolina. ANN HILL is now a Hollywood Star. Her latest movie, Teen-Age Love, is very good. C.B. REGISTER has been successful as a lawyer. A classmate of his, ELVENA HOYLE, has been his secretary all these years. It is not difficult to imagine MYRTLE McDANIEL as Physical Education Director of Woman's College, Greensboro, N.C., and MYRTLE RICE, her assistant; after all, weren't they the shining light of Jasper High School's basketball team? Cows, cows, cows—can I never get away from the cows-writes dairyman CLIFTON ADAMS from the nationally- famous Maola Company. PEGGY CIVILS' paintings hang in the art gallery at Washington City. We knew Peggy could paint all the time. Poor FAYE CONWAY is aging fast, for she really does lead a busy life as a nurse at Walter Reed Veterans Hospital. BUDDY HARRIS is now the basketball coach of N.C. State College. His team's average is 8 out of 10. LOIS MURPHY and her husband, Bob, now live in Miami, Florida. JUNE ADAMS now owns the Adams Beauty Parlor in New Bern, North Carolina. Wonder which is leading the hardest life, DEXTER MOORE, correcting his six little ones, or SAMMY RIGGS, taking orders from his C.O. in the Army. ROBERT CARPENTER is now the chef and the proprietor of the Eat and Run restaurant down the street. Would you have ever thought JEAN ADAMS would be so happy as receptionist for Dr. ROGER B. WOOTEN, the world famous specialist for broken hearts. Wonder if he ever fixed his own? RICHARD JENKINS is now the history professor at U.N.C. Craven County is really fortunate to have one of its own boys, FREDERICK CUMBO, as County Agent. DEBBIE HERRING is now the Glee Club director for Jasper High School. JUANITA JOHNSON, the successful competitor in 4-H Club work, is now clothing specialist in the Extension De- partment of State College. AVA VANDIFORD hasn't forced Bobby to say, I do, yet. She better hurry and hook him because she is having quite a lot of trouble keeping the girlish figure she had in high school. L. B. PATE and BILLY JOYNER now own the largest drag strip in North Carolina. MAT DAUGHERTY and FREDDA REGISTER carried out their plans for their June weddings. Mat and Arthur live in Wilmington, N.C. Fredda and Robert live in Spring Garden. As Roger and I wistfully finish reading our highly-prized letter, I breathe a silent prayer of gratitude for the past and hope for the future.
