ALFRED SUTTON School Hoard Members LYNN ADAMS FOY MORTON Principal 's Message Congratulations, Seniors, for the successful completion of this yearbook and your high school careers. Throughout life your experiences, both pleasant and otherwise at Jasper, will be remembered, and this publication will be a treasured memento of your last year in high school. We hope your years at Jasper have been profitable ones. As you reminisce later, you will realize that they were very important in your personal development, and that not only did you have opportunities to increase your knowledge of facts, but also the far more important opportunity of learning how to live and work with other people. Not only have you developed your potentialities to varying degrees while nere, but you uave exerted a considerable influence on your classmates. This influence, always for good, we hope, will continue to be felt throughout life. The sincere hope of your parents and teachers is that the truths you have learned here will be a firm foundation for a happy and successful life. R. H. Woodard Principal MRS. With Zime Comes Change — “Zhank goodness Nancy Burney Harvey Effie Lou Alma Nat Bruce ■Joyce Billy Carolyn Margaret Richard Becky New Bern, N. C. May 22. 1979 Dear CAPTIN Johnnie, Congratulations upon your new rank in the Marines! We knew you'd do it------either marry a Marine Captain or become one! I'm glad you are being transferred to Cherry Point. Perhaps we will see you more often. Last night I was late getting to a musical program being sponsored by our P.T. A. My little Joey and Betty were so anxious to hear it. When we entered, two entertainers were giving forth with a round of good Ole Mountain Music. Their voices were very familiar but 20 years had wrought some changes. I soon realized I was listening to Harvey and Bruce sing their No. 1 hit. I was happy that fame had come to them in this field. Upon returning home I continued to think of our class of 1959 and to wonder what had happened to them. From time to time I had seen or heard from most of them. 1 11 tell you about the ones near New Bern first so that when you are on leave you can visit them. Margaret Smith and Roger are operating the Colonial Store on the Cherry Point Freeway. Effie is teaching Physics and sponsoring the 14th grade there on the base so you may see her often— She has written two textbooks on science (wonder if we could have passed them in school) and THEY say still looking for the millionaire she talked so much about while we were in school. Alice Faye Howell is owner and publisher of the Sun Journal. She should be a big help to you in public relations. Burney Hawkins is operating the most modern farm in N. C. at Hyman. Bill Moore is manager of the MOORE GARAGE at Tuscarora and is famous for wrecking and repair service. Our church circle visits the Baptist Hospital once a month and I see Becky McCoy almost every trip. She is so busy that one is lucky to see her at all. She is Administrator for the New Eastern Baptist Hos- pital. Ann Cox is not too far away. You recall she was anxious to stay just one more year at Jaspei? She became school secretary and is still there. Not too far away Lou Alma and Mike are living happily with their brood of 4 at Ft. Barnwell. Jasper, you no doubt have heard, became an incorporated town last year and is proud to have Nat DeBruhl for its Mayor. At Camp Lejeaune James Civils has become an expert In the typing department—vows he will never leave as long as the next typewriter is occupied by that same CUTIE. Having made that chicken farm pay off in a big way Nancy and Aubrey have just taken off for a trip around the world. They want to see how the other half lives--without chickens. East Carolina College has become the first love of Joyce Hagan striving to indoctrinate the Fresh- man Class with English. Some of our classmates have wandered far and wide and we hear from them only occasionally. Richard Calhoun has become a doctor in the Navy. He and Pat are making their home at the Naval Base in Norfolk. Va. BEST COMMEDIAN OF 1978 title was given to Johnny Kilpatrick for his show on TV. Frances Koonce was guest star on his program last week. She travels with her Marine husband so does a show once a month. Remember we always thought she would manage to get on TV one way or another! Sport Cars were never like this Out-of-the-world Model just put on the Market and Designed by L. C. Conway. He even demonstrated it at Daytona Beach last month. And why would we have elected Carolyn Murphy Best Dressed unless she had been destined to use that talent. She has become a sensation as a Poweis Model. Carrie McDaniel says that she likes the Florida Climate but we think its the people. At any rate she is now working in sunny Florida. Mary Horne, with her twins, has just flown to France to be with her ARMY husband. Joe and I are now operating the Shady Lane Motel on the New Bern Turnpike. Please drop in to see us and bring more news of our high school class. We give them our humble thanks. To the rising Seniors we leave our tiny classroom. We hope they can stuff their extra 7 into it. To the Sophomores and Freshmen, we leave all the luck and happiness we could separate from our trials and temptations with sincere hopes that they will apply themselves to their respective talents to the best of their ability. We bequeath to the following individuals: I, Richard Calhoun, leave my ability to get along with people to my brother, Robert Calhoun. I. Elizabeth Simpson, leave my silly giggles and bright ideas to Fredda Register. I, Bruce Carawon, leave my vocal chords to Dexter Moore in case he needs them, which is doubtful. I. James Civils, leave my memograph machine and an abundant supply of stencils to whoever is ambi- tious enough to work with them. I, Nancy Register, leave my desk behind the door to any Junior who wants to be squeezed every time the door is opened. I, Burney Hawkins, leave my first love of Fords and second love of girls to Robert Lee Daly. I, Ann Cox, leave Ronny Hodnett labeled Hands Off. I, Billy Moore, leave my bashful appearance to Rodney Sutton - in hopes that he can fool as many people as I have with it. I. Frances Koonce, leave my ability to sleep in English class and still pass to anyone who thinks that they can do it. I, Harvey Heath, leave my good nature and sweet personality to Richard Jenkins. I, Nat DeBruhl, leave my quiet manner and caged temper to Buddy Harris. I. Carolyn Murphy, leave my industrious ways to Brenda Register - in hope that she will get by with less work than I have. I, L. C. Conway, leave my favorite pastime, aggravating fellow classmates, to Milton Jones. I, Carrie McDaniel, leave my sweet disposition and ability to be liked by everyone to Emily Prevost. I. Johnnie Daly, leave all the Marines I met at the Skating Rink except one, to Nadine Carawon. I. Lou Alma Rice, leave all the boys in Fords except one, to Myrtle Rice. I, Joyce Hagan, leave my sunny smile to Mary Alice Koonce. I. Margaret Smith, leave Nyoka Davis entirely in the hands of Shelby Kay Sutton in hopes that they will share as many laughs as the three of us have. I. Mary Horne, leave my ability to get married and still finish school, to Penny Daly. I, Effie Russell, leave all Science classes and the headaches they bring, to Rita Harris and Lois Atkinson. I, Johnny Kilpatrick, leave my ability to joke with the teachers and get by with it, to L. B. Pate. We, the class of 1959, leave to Jasper School our sincere good wishes that it may continue down through the years to be the educational center and to yet improve and expand the service it now gives to the surrounding communities. We leave! Hurrah! Seniors. We leave. Johnny Kilpatrick. Testator TAYLOR PUBLISHING COMPANY
