The Yellow Jacket N1ght Football On Saturday Novembel 16th 1928 Jasonx 1lle High play ed Jasper Academy 1n the first Hlght hlgh school football encounter ex er staged in Indlana Wlfllllng 20 to 0 If ex er a VS abash xalley combination looked like the money Red Hanna s band did that night Class stood out every bit as brlght as did the 30 000 watts of 6l9Ctl1C1tV that made the plaxlng field as bright as day The crowd numbered around 3 000 One of these days they ll be playing the valley classic the annual Turkey game betvxeen Jasonx 1lle and Linton after sundoxxn Jasonvllle has to thank Ad Ingole of the Wabash Valley Electiic Company for light 1ng system that enabled players and fan allke to follow each and every player wlthout a bit of t1Ollbl6 Fifteen lights were str ung on each side of the lot and iersey numbers xx ere cleal ly d1SC91H1blE regardless of how many warriors Vxere lnvolved in the mixup It might be added that the ball vxas painted white thus a1d1ng the playeis to follovx the agate with unfalterlng step The ghost ball of practice had nothing on the ox al used that night Jasonvllle used only 11 players and each and ex ery one of them was a star Captaln Malcolm featul ed at right end vx1th Hinton standing out at the other wing iob Bennett kept the fireworks go1ng from the quarterback berth wlth Stevenson flashing speed skill and tight at left half Suthard a 14 yeai old phenom did his share vxhile Hill fullback cracked the enemy llne a la Chuck Franklin vxho by the vxay happened to be one of the Offl C1315 Passen center once made a tackle of the 1ece1ver aftei a punt and I call that getting down well undei punts The result of coaching by one of the peers of valley mentors Red Hanna This night game created much interest in night football over the state as well as adiolning ones In consideratlon of the fact that football at night will accommodate a greatei number of people vxho are compelled to vxork 1n the day tlme the school oH1c1als have airanged for four such contests to be played on the newly constructed and lighted field next 3 ear Jasonvllle being the first to introduce lt feels that it IS her duty to make It a success ?'-5.-ffeg,-'K' 1 y' ' v 3 ! 7 , Q Y , L V . . . ,1 ' I 1 1 w . 7 1, v . , . The Yellow Jacket The Basketball RGVICW By M C Oelfler Student Manager It IS unbelleyable that a basketball team could score 586 polnts as compared to 680 by the1r opponents and lose 16 out of 22 games played These facts w1l1 no double proye that the Yellow Jackets w e1e no doubt a hard luck team Jumpmg f1om the football season dnectly to basketball season seryed to hold the team back untll the Chr1stmas yacatlon pe11od After the hohdays Coach Hanna mad sex eral radlcal shlfts 1n the llneup and then the team began to gather momentum as they contlnued the sea son s play Thelr first lmportant vlctory was by a 38 to 23 score over the strong Eels from Clay Clty Comlng back the followmg n1ght the Hanna men defeated Patrlcksburg 42 to 20 The followlng week end saw them lose two heartbleaklng games the first to Carllsle 20 to 18 and the next to Bloomfield by a 23 to 22 score The crack OOllt1C Bearcats after haymg 1un a st1 mg of y1ct0r1es to slxteen stralghts X1Slt9d Jasonvllle the follow mu Fuday and w e1e dec1s1y elx beat en 50 to 39 Thls was the most lmportant X1Lt0l5 that the Yellow Jackets counted ln the 1928 1929 season The closlng game of the legular play1ng season was lost to Jasper College by a one pomt mal gm the SLOIC belng 34 to 33 Commg 1nto the Ind1ana state sect1onals the Jasons w alloped Scotland 41 to 21 ln thelr filst game The Sw 1tz Clty ncttels how ever w ere too tough and the Yellow Jackets were el1m1nated lll a hard battle 29 to 20 One of the outstandlng featu1es of the Jasony 1lle 1928 1929 season w as the fact that for the fi1 st t1me ln h1sto1y the local school was plcked as a pre l1m1nary center for the Wabash Valley Tou1 nament on January 17 and 18 F1ye teams partlclpated hele namely Duggel lNT1dland New Lebanon Pleasantv1lle and Jasony1lle The tournament was well attended and the crowd recelved a sulprlse when PlCdSdl1tN1ll9 a posltlxe dalk ho1 se w on th1S center by vlrtue of thelr y1ctor1es over Duggr and Mldland In the 1nd1v1dual scoung column we find that Captam Stevenson gathered the amazmg total of 202 pomts by y1rtue of 82 field goals and 38 foul shots Suthald who started the season at folw ard was placed at guard 1n the shlfted llneup and sank 33 f1 om the field and 23 from the foul l1ne for a total of 89 pomts Letsmger a subst1tute the early part of the season came 1n the show posltlon scormg 78 polnts H1s excellent passmg to Stevenson also accounted for many pomts The other foxward Staker came through wlth 34 po1nts Squ1res backguaxd scored 62 pomts LA 7-59 - 1 1 1 , 1 .
