The Jaffvfz' Mayfeff Pfam The development of Jarvis' building and academic programs of the 1960s is impressive indeed. The follow- ing pages illustrate this through photography. Also illus- trated, through architectural drawings, are proposed buildings of the 1970s. Under the Campus Master Plan, the developments of the 1960s are labeled Phase I, and those of the 1970sg Phase Il, Phase I, which began a decade ago, reached its pinnacle in 1969, Capital improvements consum- mated under Phase l include: - The 31, 5-million Charles A, Meyer Science and Mathematics Center 419693. - The half-million dollar Olin Library and Communi- cation Center 419653. - The James A, Aborne Health Center 419613. - Four brick-rock men's and women's dormitories 4early 196053, - Administration Building now in remodeling stages. - Fellowship Center refurnished, - Maintenance Building 419613, - Faculty Housing under construction in 1969. As the College's business is educating, any campus development must necessarily complement the academic program, And Jarvis' academic program is in good standing, The College's full accreditation by the South- ern Association of Colleges and Schools in 1967 is a high- light of academic progress. 1 ,Q - DR, J, O, PERPENER, Jarvis President The College also maintains approval of the Texas Education Agency and is affiliated with Texas Christiar University, In addition, Jarvis is approved byfor affil- iated with many national, regional, and state organiza tions, The College offers bachelor's degrees in more than 20 fields, Phase ll, an integral part of the College 's Master Plan, will start developing early in 1970. The projected capital improvements of that five -year phase include: - Center for Human Health and Development. - Center for Religion and Philosophy. - Center for Applied, Graphic, and Performing Arts. - Student Life Center, - Dormitories for men and women, Providing the leadership for these developments is Dr, John Oliver Perpener, the College's fifth and first inaugurated President, He became Executive Vice Presi- dent in 1959 and five years later 419643 was made Pro- vost and Chief Administrative Officer, The following year, he was named President, On October 1, 1967, his inauguration was carried out, President Perpener holds the Doctorate 419523 from the University of Colorado, Dr, and Mrs, Perpener are parents of Carmena Maye 4Mrs, John A, Richards3 and John Oliver Perpener III, MRS, PERPENER President Perpener is flanked by son John 4left3 and son -in -law John ground are Mrs, Perpener 4left3 and daughter Car- mena 4Mrs, John .J 3 'ti.f Richards3. Meyer, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Inter-American Affairs, a member and former chairman of the College's Board of Trustees, and a former vice president for Sears, Roebuck 8a Company, Dallas. The College is demonstrating appreciation of Meyer: The ultra-modern Charles A. Meyer Science and Mathematics Center is named after this man. To Charles A. Meyer - a sincere, heartfelt thanks.
