Eulogies made by the minister and students seemed to battle the silence of the hundreds of mourners. This was on Saturday afternoon, May 24, 1969. James Craine Armstrong, 19, Dallas sophomoreg Mark Patrick Phillips, 20, Longview sophomore: and Alfred Lee Sanders, 24, Terrell senior. On the afternoon of May 23, the three men were traveling in a white sedan which somehow collided with a station wagon between Big Sandy and Gladewater on U.S.l-lwy. 80. Apparent driver of the sedan, Sanders, was killed instantly: Armstrong died shortly afterward. Phillips died early the next morning fMay 245.
