The club's officers are: Sonny Horner, president; Jean Faye Williams, vice-president; Daphne Owen, secretary. Two members, Frankie Pennington and Freddy Briley, were chosen to attend the Virginia Music Camp last summer. Along with the other three high school clubs of Sussex County, a music workshop was held at Stony Creek. For two days, there was concentrated effort on the part of the members, and, on the third day, their concert was an exhibition of talent, hard work and guidance on the part of their director, Dr. Carl E. Fehr, a member of the Music Department of William and Mary College, Williamsburg, Virginia. At Christmas, the Glee Club in collaboration with the English Department, presented Dickens, A CHRISTMAS CAROL. The Glee Club practices are arranged so that the boys meet on Mondays and Wednesdays, the girls meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and both groups meet together on Fridays. Mrs. Virginia N. The Student Cooperative Association of Jarratt High School, under the direction of Mrs. Leonard, has met monthly and enjoyed a variety of programs, including panel quizzes, pep rallies, and plays. Each class took part in the presentation of these programs. The S.C.A. has sponsored a clothing drive for the Save The Children Federation of America , drawn up a constitution, published a hand book, sent delegates to the State S.C.A. Convention, and worked in cooperation with the faculty to establish a demerit system in Jarratt High School. The Elementary S.C.A. works well under the capable leadership of Mrs. Elizabeth F, Jarratt. The Jarratt girls, coached by Mrs. Saunders, started out fairly new this year with only 6 of their 12 mem- bers having had previous experience in actual play. During the regular season of District C competition, the Aces won eight games and lost six, putting them in 4th place in the district and eligible for the tournament. In the first round playoff Jarratt faced McKenney, having lost to McKenney both times during the regu- lar season's play. The fall was hard and the victory was sweet as the fourth place Jarratt team defeated the first place McKenney team, 30-23. The triumph of Midway over Wakefield in the second round playoff brought Jarratt and Midway together as the final contenders for the trophy. After defeating the top team, the Aces were determined to beat Midway. The first half of the final game was close, but Midway couldn't hold down the determined drive of the Aces in the second half. The final score showed Jarratt victorious 34 to 20, District C champions for the second consecutive year. Out of eight awards given, Jarratt captured five. Jean Rideout, Beverly Parker and Judy Hall won All- Star awards, and Beverly Parker won the award for the most valuable player in the tournament. The Jarratt Aces, losing six seniors last year, started the year with only one senior. The Aces were coached by Mr. Kimberlin. This was his first year of coaching. The Aces couldn't find the groove and lost all but one of their games, a win over arch-rival Stony Creek. With more experience and height, the Aces should improve over this year's record. “ips : Co-Captain Co-Captain 38 Jarratt Jarratt Jarratt Jarratt Jarratt Jarratt Jarratt Jarratt Jarratt Jarratt Jarratt Jarratt Jarratt Jarratt 27 23 36 24 30 19 29 34 36 33 40 31 15 48 Surry Stony Creek Midway Dinwiddie Wakefield Waverly McKenney Stony Creek Waverly Midway McKenney Surry Wakefield Dinwiddie 62 27 48 44 41 38 46 33 44 48 41 50 39 63 Cheerleaders FRONT ROW, left to right: Head Cheerleaders, Suzanne Owen, Jean Williams.
