This little maid's unselfish ways and untiring a energy have won her a place in the hearts of all who know her. Jean Beatrice Flowers: Jean is very necessary to the junior and senior classes. Small but loud expresses her. Although she is small, she makes her presence known by her never-ceasing tongue. Her talkativeness, mingled with her good humor has made her a favorite with all. Marie Hall: Marie believes in the motto, little girls should be seen but not heard . Quiet, but determined, she is destined to make her way in the world and also to find time to enjoy life in the fullest. William Edward Jordan: Many and many times in the last three years a very quiet studious looking boy has been seen passing through the corridors of Jarratt High. His profile greatly resembles an arrow collar ad and his appearance is pleasing to all. | = yy - - aie Tg | TTT it nt k cl ‘y | “Wh “Uy f Hf ( i ot. Irwin Wood Witchel: Irwin is one of those good-natured boys that you can't help liking. Worry and care hardly enter his mind. But is he bright? Well, one look will convince you. Richard Nelson: He has been weighed in the balance and not found wanting, but no scale is great enough to measure his true worth. Dickie is sincere and reliable. In spite of his gentleness, he has a most fasci- nating combination of wit and mischief, Pung men ean er Oretha Powell Owen: Cheeter is what we call her, But Smiles is a better name, For it matters not where we see her, Her smile is always the same. ¢ Senior Farewell We the Juniors of 1947, realizing that the time is soon coming when you will have to leave us, want to express our gratitude for the help you have given us and also for the good example you have setforus to go forth in the world as you will go. We thought this would be a happy day, but as it draws nearer, we iind it hard to face. Dear Seniors, we will miss you terribly and things won't be the same without you. The doors opened at 6:00 P. M., at which time a very enticing supper was served. Before the program there.were games in which both young and old participated. Mrs. Lindamood directed a very enjoyable program. It began with a dance by Edna Hall, Nancy Graham and Hazel Pryor Batte followed by two skits by the first and second grades. Then came two numbers by the High School Glee Club. The program ended with a play entitled'™rs. Marlowe Goes To The Ball , in which Dickie Nelson stole the show. With the end of the program, there were several costume parades in whichthose chosen by the judges were awarded prizes. The library door then opened to all who wished to play Bingo, which was under the supervision of Mrs. Ricks. I am sure that it was the most successful entertainment of its kind ever carried out in Jarratt High School. Christmas Program and Party On December 20, 1946, a Christmas program was enjoyed by the entire school. Mr. Roberson gave an inspiring talk which was followed by a play Don't Tell Me It's Christmas. The leading part was taken by Mary Rogers Furruss. We had a number of Christmas carols sung by the Glee Club: Deck The Halls , Silent Night , and Come All Ye Faithful. The Program was beautifully given. The audiences joined in the last song. Then the High School gathered in the lunch room for a most enjoyable time. The room was beautifiily decorated with red and green paper. In the corner was ‘a lighted Christmas tree that added much to the appearance of the room. When all had gathered, we sang White Christmas. The games started by the girls shaking hands with the boys. Mr. Nelson and Mrs. Lindamood added much to our party by participating in the games. They caused much laughter by feeding each other with baby bottles while blind-folded. After this we had a contest with ten girls competing for the most pro- posals from ten boys. Prizes were given to Jean Flowers and Mrs. Burruss. When the games were over we had most delightful refreshments. We enjoyed jelly with whipped cream and cherries, cake and salted peanuts. After giving out the gifts and giving thanks for a peaceful Christmas and many good friends we parted eager to crowd as much enjoyment into the holidays as possible. v Basketball Party On Thursday evening, January 30, 1947, after a hard day of examinadims the basketball players and their guest met in the school library to cele- brate a successful year in basketball. To start the ball rolling weformed different groups and contested for the best amateurs. We played several other games after whthwe assembled in the lunchroom. A toast was made “to the players and--then--We--Ate!!! Eatng as much as our diets would allow, we journeyed back upstairs to the library where we all enjoyed two whole hours of dancing. Bidding each other a sweet Nightie-night we departed wondering, WHY DOES IT GET. SO LATE SO EARLY ? The only thing which made our evening incomplete was the absence of Mr. Burruss who was ill at the time. 4 mn MM, “MyM, a MU MM MA Mf Ml MM LEZLA ZL EA PEE EE EE PZ ZEEE EE EEEE EE ES Sra Le Seta peers -teewi-rs § fa3 per he bee REE tiene oy br. jesse ve Fe bantpehe «bw a 3 Pe m ss cts Sap by Mbps Bees SARE Set ‘ $e o 4 Aid ieey oPipedes tannery E eto os be eee Hike 2% nee, Wes hehan ees epee 4 tng ae Rea eernce y Se et ee ee ee ewe ta pag head nd ay - 12% = la wa be 63 +a56s ¥a ye i or eay “a Ang von wed 3 : : y - ath aed ee ee BS ye } pee’ : . : re 3 ie ee ; ; : } ; % wns | mle om a. 7 “a wicri tthe ; : A en np btw tore ney 6 ree s Ma Wi Wh MW Wi Wy Wn WM Mi WM WM, Ma Wa a Wi Wa Wa Wa, Wy ys WU iZRxPEPLPFIFSFAOLZALE eZ PLEZLLES SENIOR PLAY The Seniors of 1947, selected the play, RING OF TRUTH , by Charles George which was given May 16, at eight o'clock in the High School Audi- torium. It was a comedy of three acts, earlier entitled HOT CHOCOLATE Telling the truthis an admirable quality, but the truth often hurts and most people hate to hear the truth. So you can imagine the screamy ingly funny situations that arose in that merry play. Julia bought a magic ring- from a gypsy woman who told her that whoever wore that ring could not help but tell the truth at all times and at atl costs. Julia laughed at the woman's superstitious belief, but when she wore the ring, she found herself blurting out the most awful truths and throwing every- one into chaos. And worst of all, she could. not remove the ring from her finger, ro matter how hard she tried. But the adage truth is right and truth is might proved to be correct, for in the end Julia saved a large and well-established busiress from collapse and prevented several families from being unhappy through her truth-telling.
