What do those serious countenances mean, comprehension or lack of MATHEMATICS 1 I.H.S., with four years ofmathematics, of fers much more than the traditional readin', ritin', and 'rithmetic. Not only future engineers and mathemati- cians, but all college-minded students tackle these courses. Algebra I, which is a founda- tion for all other math and science courses, is the study of signed numbers. The five classes are taught by Mr. Edward Bantarri. Students ',,,..f-f--- Jerry claims it is easy when sur- rounded by such fellow workers as Connie, Carol, and Doris. Loyal helps Marilyn P., Tom,Chery1, Marilyn M., and Joannie solve one of the mysteries of geometry. taking Algebra Il devote their time to an ad- vanced study led by Miss Gertrude Mikkelsen. In plane geometry the ability to think straight is stressed by Miss Mikkelsen and Mr Kermit Hammer. Mr. Hammer also gives in- struction in the more complicated forms of math: solid geometry and trigonometry. For students desiring a better all-around under- standing of arithmetic, two classes in general mathematics are also offered.

In this era of history making events Jamestown High School students are industriously preparing them selves for their future Job as the leaders and voters of our country Mrs Mildred Ganfreld and Mr Virgil Buchholtz instruct the sophomores in world history the Juniors learn of United States History from Miss Helen Stensland and Mr Buchholtz and Mr William Krivobok leads his senior students in a study of modern problems Besides following their text books in these SOCIAL STUDIES courses the pupils enthusiastically discuss present day problems of our world Not all students around J H S take part ln the reg ular social studies program During the summer, six weeks courses in Unrted States Hrstory and modern problems are offered Over fifty ambitious students wishing to gain an extra credit participated in this program last summer of the class as she explains capitol settings - .
