Feeling bo+h proud and a bil limid, we face 'rhe seem- ingly enormous building and wide corridors of J.l-l.S. as sophomores. Bur lime does mol allow lhis inilial frighl lo remain. ln a mailer of weeks, each of us rushes pell- mell inlo a whirl of aclivily-foolball games, club meer- ings, arhlelic workouls, play rehearsals, and innumerable eighlh periods. ln class, leachers assign mounlains of homework, and lhen urge us 'ro go beyond lexlbooks in exlra sfudy. As new lads are presenled +o us, we find rhal' new inleresls develop loo. Nighls in lhe li- brary and homework sessions inlo 'lhe early morn oflen resull'. Friendships Friends are wi'rh us af all sorfs of limes: When lessons presenf problems. and when we re sharing lokes foo. There's a special kind of warmfh generafed by fhaf friend who smiles a cheery greefing in fhe corridor, shoufs wildly over a foofball vicfory wifh you. or shares The lafesf homeroom gossip. Giggling, or sympafhefically lisfening fo our problems, high school pals can mean a greaf deal fo us. Friendships gained are molding influences in our high school years. As we mafure and our minds awaken fo deeper, more probing fhoughfs, fhe voicing of our inner- mosf feelings develops our characfer. If is in our close friends fhaf we choose fo confide. ln a real sense, a frue friend is a parf of us. Jusi' as we share wifh each ofher our deepesf woes and concerns, so we also pass some of our mbsf exuberanf momenfs wifh our pals. Crazy pracfical jokes, special 'rrips and evenfs. singing 'round a piano-fhese are all liffle 'limes made more memorable because +hey're done in company. The fime of our lives is due in a large parf 'ro fhose 'friends who ioin us in our high school experiences. Truly. 'rhey are fhe ones who make fhose momenfs worfh having. There is no argumenf againsl' if: A friend is a gifl' you give yourself.
