The founding of the club grew out of a call for people interested in participating in the Model General Assembly of the United Nations in western New York. This mock assembly. which is held every year in Buffalo. is sponsored by the Buffalo Coun- cil on World Affairs. Canisius and D'Youville Colleges, New York State College for Teachers. and the University of Buffalo. Each of many area schools was given a country to represent in this assembly. which was held on April I4. The purpose of the International Relations Club at J.H.S. is to acquaint its members with the country to be rep- resented. this'year lran, and with the procedures of the United Nations. This was accomplished by means of reports and discussions at meetings which were held every Thursday. The only requirement for membership in this club is interest. The final delegates to the assembly were chosen on the basis of three-minute try-out speeches. Those who attended from J.H.S. were James Muir. Carl Peterson. E. John Wahlberg. and Myron Peck. The club is sponsored by Miss Helen McMahon. head of the Citizenship Education Department in Jamestown High School. The officers for this year were as follows: President ................. ..... J ames Muir Vice President ................. Carl Peterson Secretary ........ Eleanor Goller Parliamentarian .... Myron Peck Program Chairman . .. Touch football was dropped two years ago when it conflicted with the newly organized cross country team. Mr. Colburn supervised a double elimination tourney which saw teams from almost all homerooms entered. Competition was keen and spirit was high as teams representing all three classes vied for the school cham- pionship. Homeroom 204 emerged sophomore champs.
