Presidential election was perhaps the most exciting contest J. C. has seen in several years. Jerry Braun, Doug Breakey, and Clayton Okland were the known candidates. But when two darkhorses, Colleen Hal- vorson and Denvy Saxowsky, entered the race, they changed what might have been a quiet election into an exciting fight. When Clayton withdrew just prior to the first ballot, ten- sion mounted. Doug was defeated on the first ballot and Denvy on the second, but neither one supported the remaining two candi- dates and the election was still wide open. On the third and final ballot, Jerry became the new presi- dent, winning by the absentee ballot. Colleen had won the majority of the votes of those present, but when the absentee ballots were counted, the final tally was Jerry, 120, Colleen, 111. Earlier in the evening Clark Wold was elected Vice President, Mary Tyler, Secretary and Terry Peterson, Treasurer.
