Our new President was appointed lo his post January 11, 1965, after holding the positions of Dean, Vice President, and Acting President. Dr. Sillers has been on our campus since August 1963. He can often be seen energetically hurrying from one meeting to another, but always finding the time to speak to students and greet them with his warm smile. Oh, that's cold! The least you can do, is use warm water. -lttivrinngag Fa.: -if 2 ,gi ,. . S, gr I W- 5 .affx 5. kg cn .1 I: . 1 5 2 'ii UE .a.-.wav L35 W'-Ei LL David Bymoen, and Bob Fisher prepare for the attack. Homecoming with all its gayety and spirit once more descended upon student and faculty alike. The theme this year was Camelot, with Bradley Johnson and Jerri Lund the general co-chairmen. Festivities included the traditional barbecue with a pep rally and Flaming J followed hy the eoronation, play, and Queen's Tea. At this time the Freshmen more than willingly shed their ever-pre- sent beanies. Saturday began with an alumni-faculty break- fast and then the big parade. It made fun of the musical theater of the early part of the century, and was a satire of those good old days. Electrons Last winter's S.A. Presidential election was perhaps the most exciting contest J. C. has seen in several years. Jerry Braun, Doug Breakey, and Clayton Okland were the known candidates. But when two darkhorses, Colleen Hal- vorson and Denvy Saxowsky, entered the race, they changed what might have been a quiet election into an exciting fight. When Clayton withdrew just prior to the first ballot, ten- sion mounted. Doug was defeated on the first ballot and Denvy on the second, but neither one supported the remaining two candi- dates and the election was still wide open. On the third and final ballot, Jerry became the new presi- dent, winning by the absentee ballot. Colleen had won the majority of the votes of those present, but when the absentee ballots were counted, the final tally was Jerry, 120, Colleen, 111. Earlier in the evening Clark Wold was elected Vice President, Mary Tyler, Secretary and Terry Peterson, Treasurer. The election commission kept tally on the votes. .A. Their main purpose while here was to learn as much of the English language as is possible in such a short length of time. Their teachers included Professor Ellingson, Maria Van Brero, Ivan Hernandez, and Karyn Sehr. Mr. Gaalaas took charge of this rather large group of people while they were on the campus. Our college should feel lucky to have the privilege of sharing cultures with these Southern friends, and to have them here is a rewarding experience for all concerned. Luz of Chile. 200 - A .b.
