The Freshman team went through a successful season, winning 10 of their 14 scheduled games. Opposition consisted of Freshman squads of other schools and independent teams of this area. Of their four losses, two were to Valley City, one to Concordia, and one to the strong Jamestown Legion team. Having a well-balanced team with dependable reserve strength was a large step toward success. Tall center Mike Greitl provided a great deal of the scoring power.

The Mayville Comets then suffered their second defeat at the hands of the orange and black of C. Showing considerable improvement since early season. the Comets were dealt the short end of a 39-37 score. Lew Carlson was the defensivelcog while Buck Eckrothprovided the offensive spark. A well-balanced Dickinson team, looking none too polished, handed the Jimmies a 35-33 defeat, the C. squad making a rather poor showing. Lew Carlson's last minute six-point rally fell short. However, coming back strong in. their next contest the Jimmies handed a 47-40 defeat to the Valley City cagers. The stage was now set for the thriller of the season, the tussle with Minot, the pre-season conference favorite. With a 46-43 score favoring Mi11OI,S Beavers and three seconds of playing time remaining, diminutive Cliff Hendrickson uncorked an extra-long two-handed push shot which scored beautifully to tie the score. With nine seconds remaining in the first overtime period, Jerry Davenport scored a free throw to again tie the score, this time at 54-all. The game ended as a long desperation heave by Eastburn swirled in and out, the Beavers winning, 60-58 in the second overtime period. Another loss to Dickinson completely eliminated the Jimmies as a title contender. The Savages of Dickinson won by a 49-47 score. Bowing out of the season, the Cassellmen avenged an earlier defeat by tripping Wahpeton 46-43 in a hotly contested affair. Lew Carlson in this game, his finale, played beautilfully, scoring 23 points. Now to look momentarily into next yearis basketball season. Two players, Lew Carlson and Bob Eastburn, will not be with the squad due to graduation. Coach Cassell will form the nucleus of his team about the returning varsity members.
