GUIDANCE WORKERS HELP PROVIDE A BRIGHT FUTUR 4 I I Betsy Phelps, Mitzi McClanahan, and Sandy Boyles discuss college plans with Mr. Turner. Mr. George Turner and Mrs. Edna Ferrer are the back- bone of our Guidance Department. Working with them are Mrs. Hovermale, Mrs. Kave, Miss Patch, and Mr. Ware. Mrs. Hovermale and Mrs. Kave work together in preparing guidance data. These persons are striving to give systematic aid to pupils in solving their problems and in making adjustments in various situations which the pupils must meet. This well-organized and efficient department adds much to out school. Mrs. Fetter gives students instructions before they begin their tests. 10

ROVIDE IN MAKING OUR SCHOOL THE BEST' Mr. Gordon interrupts his busy schedule to pose for the photographer. Mr. Melvin D. Fawcett, the assistant principal, is another well-known person frequently seen in out school. As his title indicates, he takes over the duties of our principal in his absence. Besides this, he issues absentee cards and teaches social studies. 'Included among his other duties are assigning lock- ers to all new students entering James Wood and collecting teachers' monthly reports. In spite of all of these responsibilities, Mr. Fawcett is always willing to help anyone in any way he can. Mr. james C. Gordon is now beginning his fourth year as principal of james Wood. Each morning he greets the entire student body when making announcements over the public address sys- tem. He participates in many of our school activities such as sponsoring the BETA club. Our principal is free with his advice and ex- tends a friendly, helping hand wherever it is needed. 'By taking such an interest in our school, he natu- rally creates the same enthusiasm among the mem- bers of the faculty and student body. . Excused ot Unexcused -which will it be? Miss Lucy Painter, another familiar face at james Wood, is the school bookkeeper. It is her duty to keep all financial records for the school. Throughf her efforts, confusion and work is lessened in ourjschool. A new, -face in the school office this year is that 'of' Mrs. Anita Bly, the school secretary, Mrs. Bly, a past, graduate of James Wood, is a great asset to our school and has already proved herself to be indispensable. Lucy Painter, seated, begins to type the day's corre- spondence while Anita Bly, standing, answers the phone.
