Not Shown: Louis Brill, Phyllis Schmitz, Peggy McCarty, Nancy Cole, Robert Giles. A NEW LOOK was the goal of the Woodbine staff this year. To achieve this, the challenge of producing a book that would be distinctively different from any yet published was placed in the hands of the journalism class, a senior honor division of the English department. The experiment paid off. Changes were made this year which will enable future Woodbine staffs to produce books which will appeal to the student body and will be recognized throughout the East as outstanding. This year linotype was introduced to provide a variety of print styles. More space was allotted to our curriculum and coverage of the school year was more complete. Of course these changes cost a great amount of money and time, but although the journalism class is small, all records for book and ad sales were broken. Handling the biggest budget in school history is Mr. jim Biddle, who continuously watched expenses and dead- lines. With the help of the advertising and sales staffs who solicited the advertisers, sent out bills and collected money, the '58 Woodbine was a financial success. Our sponsor, Mrs. Rewis, is to be congratulated for the help and encouragement she gave to her students both in work on the Woodbine and on the Wood Post. With the co-operation of our principal, faculty and the student body who this year bought over 500 books, the New Look has become a reality. It has also become a challenge to future seniors to make each year's Woodbine better than the last and by doing so to make each year at James Wood High more succesful than the last.

Under the support and encouragement of their advisor, Mr. Funkhouser, and with the co-operation of their classmates, our safety patrol has contributed greatly to the safety of the student body and has made james Woodis safety record an enviable one. Since most students come to and go from school in county school buses, the main duty of the safety patrol is to prevent accidents on the buses by assisting the drivers and keeping order. Through their efforts and with the great amount of student co-operation, no james Wood student who rides a bus to and from school has been seriously injured during 1957 - 58. 143 MR.
