Go For The Gold! Nineteen Riley artists were award- ed 26 out of 120 goid Iceys this year in the Schoiastic Art Awards compe- tition. Aian Waiiing ' 88, and Troy Smith ' 89, won Kodalc Medaiiions of Excel- ience nominations and Lisa Endres ' 88, received a Haiimaric nomination. Drawings and photos wiii be sent to New Yoric in May for National compe- tition. There the Haiimaric company will select one from each regional level in the winning artist from each region will be awarded $100.00. The two superpower lead- ers held a three-day summit meet- ing in December and signed a nu- clear arms control agreement. Bottom Right In an effort to keep the Persian Gulf open to naviga- tion, the United States began in July to escort vessels to protect them from Iran, in September the U.S. Navy blew up an Iranian ship that was caught laying mines in the Gulf.
