Like the kaleidoscope, it has been di- vided into different segments reflecting the parts of English as a Whole. Some of the segments were Greek mythology, Composition, Shake- speare, and journalism. What's Happening, another course, was presented as a study of current events and trends in media. Struggle for justice and the Invisible Wall were studies of prejudices in America. The English Department also focused on the freshman with English l and college bound seniors with English 4.

Communications Through Speaking and Writing Speech, journalism, and Crea- tive Writing revolve around the expression of ideas openly in a world of communications. The need to associate with other cultures has been met at Riley with four foreign language courses, French, Spanish, German, and Latin. By studying and analyzing word origins, Johnnie Rhea discovers that many words in English were derived from Latin. 9
