On Motto, Lude Ludum the determination to succeed has never had a better example than the Wildcats who lose but keep fight- ing toward a winning end. And they will find that end. For somewhere there is a place where the mighty motto LUDE LUDUM! issues from the Jips of every student, and the purple and gold march on toward greater victories for each tomorrow.

' Enthusiasm Carries The energy which forms the soul of Riley is its spirit. We wonder sometimes if there really is any, but when we stand in a deserted hall, we can feel a kind of magic present all around us. In the half- worn wax, the solid bricks, and the air itself, there is a silent voice that says Chin up; keep smiling. Riley ' s life has rarely been one of perfect victory, and the spirit sometimes becomes hidden. But it is never lost. In oil the pageantry of human existence. A New Council Influences Student Life The Riley Student Council has undergone a complete reorganization this year. Now representatives at large are elected by each of the four classes to form a council of twenty-six besides the four officers. With the aid of sponsor Mr. Morrison, the coun- cil has carried out a full schedule of activi- ties including an A.F.S. drive, the football and basketball coronations, and the early ordering of class rings for juniors. Honored by being asked to send a delegate to the national convention, the council looks for- ward to better relationships between the faculty and student body. The world is sometimes surprised at the wisdom of its youth. Student Council officers are glad to better international relations with some con- crete help. Becky Newhard, our A.F.S. student to Sweden, accepts a check from Sharon Csernits, president. Looking on are Judy Arch, secretary, and Curt Woolley, vice-president. Dean Brown Is now in New Zealand on the A.F.S. program. Presidents on parodel The P.T.A. invited the presidents of several school organizations to meet for o panel discussion. The presidents are: Jim Hamilton, Senior Class; Chuck Klickok, Booster Club; John Byers, National Honor Society; Sharon Csernits, Student Council; Jon Noce, Monogram Club; and Steve Lester, Junior Class. These are the middle men . The Student Council represen- tatives are selected from all four classes to better relationships between the faculty and student body. 16
