Members of the Retail Selling Class get first hand experience in meeting the public by take ing an active part in selling the paper each week. They sell in the corridors and outdoors to those who do not use the cafe- teria. THE GLEE CLUB-Miss Ruby Guilliams, Director Because they were willing to sacrifice and to work hard, this year's glee club found it easy to keep close to the high mark of excellence set by former clubs. Meeting at 7:30 a.m., they sacrificed an hour of sleep each morning, and all of them had to get used to coming to school in real darkness when the city went on East- ern time. Their first assignment was to get ready for the combined chorus that sang for the North Central teachers meeting. This was hardly out of the way, when rehearsals began for the Christmas play, The Snow Queen, staged jointly with the Drama Club. During the Christmas season the club sang in the lobby of downtown banks. In the second semester they put all their efforts preparing for the Easter assembly, and Pilgrims Progress. Their appearance at Senior graduation will close their activities for the school year. THE BAND-Louis I-labegger, Director Following a custom of several years, the band went on its annual trip to Riverview Park in Chicago for the Parade of Bands, where they won their usual high rating in ap- pearance, in marching and in playing ability. Returning home, they got down to the hard work of preparing their music and formations for the home football games where their ap- pearance between halves is looked for with the same interest as the game itself. With the season over, preparations for the first concert in the auditorium began. During late winter and spring their time was filled with appearances at feeder schools, radio con- certs and their appearance in the state contest where they won many awards. A second con- cert in the auditorium closed out their season. THE ORCHESTRA-Laura Mae Briggs, Director On March 31, our orchestra clirnaxed a suc- cessful season with a brilliant concert in the Riley auditorium. Soloists were Carolyn Sarka and Ed Swanson, two of the city's most promis- ing young violinists - and members of the South Bend Symphony. This was the second of two concerts given in the auditorium during the year, in addition to appearances in some of our feeder schools. ln March they appeared as a unit with the All City Orchestra in a concert for the Music Teachers Association meeting in Cleveland, Ohio. Their season will close in lune when they take part in the Class Day and the Com- mencement exercises.
