Prophesy A . A its ,. Z?ia3i1'.., . Y J IVe were at the beach for our last party as students, for soon we would be graduates and everyone going her separate way. I sat on the sand watching the group from a short distance. It was just at the dusk of the evening, the most peaceful time of the day. I wondered if we would ever again meet these friends that we have grown to know and to love. I heard a soft deep laughter. I turned around suddenly and found myself staring face to face with the Old Man and The Sea! You need not wonder about the future, my dear, for you are in the future. It is now 1972. Look around, do you see any familiar faces? I looked around me-why yes, there are some of my old classmates. 'Why, I can't believe it! They look a little older, but they seem the same. The Old Man smiled. Yes. there is Pat and Barbara. The three little girls belong to Pat, she is now head nurse on Colored IVard. Barbara is working at the Veterans Hospital in Fay- etteville. Her horoscope has guided her wisely through the years. Look over by the pier. There is Sissy, Amelia, and Betty Lou. They all look so excited. Listen, you can hear Betty Lou telling all of them about the new house she and LeRoy have just built. She has retired from the nursing profession to keep up with those three boys. Sissy acts as carefree as ever telling of her duties at the hospital in Vanceboro. Amelia is all excited about the planning of her trip to visit Cecelia, Ron, and their son in Japan. Amelia is now working at the hospital in Faison. IVhy, there is plane, Retha, and Vickie! .lane has on a uniform! Oh no, she did join the Army! Vickie is head nurse at home looking after all those kids she vowed she would never have. What? Retha is head nurse on Maternity. Here she keeps up on the latest events. I overheard her saying that Nita has four boys and Irene has four girls. Maybe they can trade and even up the sides. VVhat is this-jackie and Mauney have received their Masters Degree. jackie is still work- ing at Chapel Hill. Mauney is out in California raising asparagus in her spare time. You say Carolyn is at Chapel Hill too-a physical therapist now. Linda is not too far away over in Raleigh working at The Hill. Ethel is head nurse on upper hall. Golly, hard to believe! It's hard to keep up with Gail. She keeps moving about to be with Joel wherever he is playing baseball. VVhat's that! jo Ann and Jimmy have had to add on to their new split level home already with the addition of the new twin boys. I can see why. Those two little girls needed some company. Let's see now I guess that is about everyone. No, what about Becky? She is still trying to make up her mind about going on to school. Seems like a lost cause now with all the work of looking after her family. y It certainly has been nice talking with you Old Man and The Sea. I shall ........ What! YVhat! Time to go someone was saying. You will not believe it but let me tell you who I have been talking to ......... Class Prophet: BECKY CROWELL 20
