Can ' t Take It With You, II (With apologies to Kaufman 8f Hart) Meridith, fifteen, sings opera, bakes bread. And remembers by heart everything that she ' s read. She can do anything, as her mother once said In the house on Chdey Lane. Colleen, seventeen, has little time or concern Tor dusting or vacuuming when it ' s her turn. But she ' s the smartest and is always the quickest to learn In the house on Clidey Lane. Rigley, ninteen, has invented something new- And just last week he perfected the kazoo- But meanwhile he ' s working on Super-Stick-Glue In the house on Clidey Lane. Jefferson, twenty-four, is a business man Who does for his siblings the best that he can But he ' s fallen in love and is embarrassed by the clan In the house on Clidey Lane. Jefferson ' s girl is as rich as can be And her father is dubious: he just cannot see How the Therancleave family could live with such glee In the house on Clidey Lane. Their parents live in Tahiti, and what ' s more Is that the people are even stranger next door. And the huge, musty rooms are cluttered galore In the house on Clidey Lane. Oh, Daddyl Jefferson ' s girl did cry, Can ' t you see that those are all good reasons why My dear love needs such a woman as I In the house on Clidey Lane? Although the Therancleave household, so oddly presented. Was still just a bit by her father resented. He understood her feeling and eventually relented To the house on Clidey Lane. Jennifer Quinton :-. ' ? ; ; ' •.;-V r£ So Long Will you remember me after we are through? Think of all the times we ' ve been together and all the things We ' ve done So long ago. It hurts to accept that it will all be over so soon, After it ' s taken so long . . . So long to find each other. So long to build our love. Will you remember me After our time has passed? Or will I be just another face in the yearbook- Remembered as just one of your friends? If this is what I will have to face. Then I must say-So long. Jill Witzman 170

from a Ghost Inside of Me These hurried words From my fingertips But my mind, my soul Is not in control . . rione but a ghost inside of me. A light goes on From under my doorway I know not of imagination O, Apparition, from a world unknown, speak to mel Or could it be ... Nothing more than the ghost inside of me. But as the clock draws nearer To the midnight mark, I feel suddenly a presence. And my head, it turns so swiftly- And then just as quickly (as it came), 1 am alone in the dark. Alone in the dark with only . . . This ghost from inside of me. Janel Watkins There are people . . . There are people who try hard for a day. And they are good. There are people who try hard for a year. And they are better. There are people who try hard for many years, And they are very good. But some people try hard throughout their whole lives. And they are really indispensable. Tony Gonzales oto byr Cfndy I

Sandbox Dreams Remember the days Of sandbox dreams? Reality it was Or so it seemed. Smiling faces. Oblivious to time. Each day an adventure With a treasure to find. Flying kites in the park. Sandcastles at the beach. Nothing unaccomplished. No goals out of reach. We ' d captured our world. We thought all tales were told. But as kids we were unaware We ' d have to grow old. Jennifer Wiley I Love to rriendship After the love has ended. Our memories tucked in a drawer, Why do you seem to act as though We ' ve never met before? We were so close some years ago But now were far apart. I ' ve gotten over my love for you But how we ignore each other breaks my heart. Why can ' t ex-loves become close friends? To be there through good times and bad? I wish we could have been like that After everything we had. Well, I guess now I ' ve tried everything. There ' s nothing more I can do. If you ever decide you need a friend, I ' m STILL waiting here for you. Julie Alfenito for Tom Mo 171
