Hold on to Your Dreams Mold on to your dreams Don ' t ever give in. If you keep trying. You ' re going to win. Mold on to your dreams Though sometimes it ' s hard- Just hold your head up And reach for the stars. Mold on to your dreams Though they seem so far away. And those dreams will come true Somehow — Someway. Cheri Frost I hate to think about what happened to us But it always comes to mind When you went on with your life And just left me behind. You really pulled one over on me I thought you truly cared. As I though about loving you And all the times we shared. You would hold me in your arms and Then recite a song; I didn ' t know that you really Didn ' t love me all along. Every time I see you, I cry Because I can ' t forget. A picture of your face. In my mind is set. I hope you ' re happy with your new love But a picture of me will still remain, Because forever, you will have Left my heart in pain. And 1 hope she satisfies and truly Loves you. But just remember — No one will ever love you The way I Used to. Deanna Boyajian 167

The Sum of a Person ME (hope) as in a person who ' ll someday be: succeeding eventually at making myself free, wondering, no longer, anxiously, realizing things which, before, I could not see. MYSELF (perception) as in now sometimes alone in the familiar crows: thinking and wishing, but never aloud, attempting not to clear up this pensive cloud; keeping with a dream that keeps me silently proud. I (truth) as in happy in a certain way: forming real opinions so that I mean just what I say, knowing within that everything will be okay, reaching all the goals that I set yesterday. J.Q. 166 Rainy Midnight In the rain I roam and wander. And from above, rolls the thunder. Tonight the darkness is strong and souled- 1 think of you and shed a single tear; The truth suddenly hits steady and hard. I ' m so far from you now, so far away- I still love you as much now as then. Yet in such different ways. I wish you ' d return to find me here On this secluded road. But we ' ve been separated for so long. What are you doing? Where are you now? Tonight you ' re on your own path. Travelling alone, destination unclear, in the rain that keep pouring, purling- And 1 tip my chin to the empty sky, falling. Calling out your name to the lonely night. And stare . And wonder . . . While from above, rolls the thunder. Jil Ackerman for Jay

The day is coming, it will soon be here. The day when we leave our friends so dear. The people we never really met Are becoming the faces we ' ll never forget. The teachers we thought we ' d always hate The ones who were always a bit irate. Are actually fascinating, fun, and great. The tardy sweeps, garbage heaps, hall passes. And boring classes will soon be part of the past. Mow did the time go by so fast? This day has departed, and so has time- But the memories of High School will always be mine. Sheryl Binstein THE CURSE or THE ENGLISH TEACHERS I think that I have never known A book as lame as Ethan Frome. My teachers say it ' s good for me But I know that they ' ll never see That when 1 scan across the page The style just puts me in a rage. How can someone wr ite like that? Strange vocab - they must be cracked! Just what do they expect of me? Praise Joyce ' s poem about a tree? Read ten chapters by tonight. Mow you see that we must fight The literature they force on us Which we MUST read without a fuss. Ask me to read and I will sing, Give me a novel by Stephen KingI Of course you know they ' d say it ' s dumb Because reading that would be fun. Wade Wisinsk You see him from across the way Tongue-tied — you don ' t know what to say. Walk right up to take a chance Scared and daring . . . it ' s for romance. ♦ Tor a long time we ' ve been a pair The special times and feelings we share. They ' ll never be forgotten or lost- We ' ll keep them forever ... at all costi I think about you when we ' re apart, I keep your picture in my heart. I love you more every day- I hope this love won ' t drift away. Michelle Fuller 168
