TOP ROW: V. Berudt, P. Files, D. Clawson, A. Borman, J. Gower, P. Hicks, BOTTOM ROW: C. Caggiano, T. Staples, L. Reavis, C. Jones, T. Love, E. Hamie, K. Franks. FLOOR: M. Dorias. l The girls gymnastics team is coming into their 1984 season with a very optimistic outlook. All of the teams in our league are equal in ability and we should be very com- petitive, the outcome will depend on if we get the breaks, says Coach John Novak. Novak, although he has not coached at Monroe for long, is an experienced gymnist himself. Novak commented on how he enjoys coaching his girls teams more than boys teams, I think girls are easier to coach basically because they listen better and are more disciplined. The team is strong in all events with no major weak points. Pam Files, a senior and the best overall gymnist will be a strong contender on the volt, beam and floor exercises. Other highly acclaimed gymnists are Julie Gower, leading on the floor exercises, Heather Williams, on the balance beam, Pam Files on the volt, and Patty Hicks and Dawn Clawson on the uneven bars. We are also strong in our classes. Pam Files and Heather Williams will be competing in Class 1, the highest class of high school gymnastics. We also have some very good class 2 contenders. A great deal of our team is competing in Class 3 and very few are in Class 4, the lowest in competition. Going into the league where the teams are fairly equal will put a lot of stress on the girls, but they are expected to do very well. Their toughest competitors this season will be Eagle Rock, Grant and University High. Next years season should prove to be spectacular for Monroe. We have seven or eight girls returning next season, many of which are already top contenders, states Novak. 84 SPORTS Hmmm, the floor was here a minute ago Pam does a backwalk over on the beam
