SOCIETY FOR THE PROMOTION OF INTELLECTUAL THOUGHT The club S.P.I.T. is a free-expression organization wishing to depart from the norm of society and seek true freedom and true self-expression. By doing so they attract some attention to themselves. The club tries to cover controversial and non-controversial con- temporary issues. STUDENT COUNCIL The Student Council at Monroe is the chief govern- mental body composed, directed, and run entirely by students from all grade levels. The organization meets as a class daily during period four housing all Class and Student-Body officers. Student Council discusses campus affairs and takes action when new develop- ments are needed or simple reformation of old campus laws. Student Council is the speaking body for all Monroe students. 146 STAGE CREW The Stage Crew at Monroe supplies stage techni- cians, trained students, for musicals, plays, variety shows, assemblies, and dances. The organization sup- ports all efforts in Odin's Hall the Little Theater with stage lighting, management, painting, set construc- tion, and special effects.

RESERVE OFFICERS TRAINING CORPS The Reserve Officers Training Corps was estab- lished in 1977. The chief purposes and goals of this organization is leadership development and providing its members with a practical application of citizenship evelopment that is vital in both civilian life and ilitary pursuits. Each member develops their tech- niques through practical training and learning from the best teacher of all, experience. f We f , fu., rv --- 1-ff , V, .i -it . . SOUND CREW The Sound Crew at Monroe is chiefly responsible for the required audio equipment at sporting events, musicals, spirit rallies, plays, community, faculty functions, and various other activities. The organiza- tion is basically for those students interested in the area of audio engineering. SLANT Slant is a private, Monroe funded newspaper cen- tering on free-expression through the means of poetry. All of the paper's construction and development is performed by a small, yet extremely capable and adept staff. This is the first year that this paper has been in circulation on campus.

RUNS VIKING GALLEY Under the direction of Ms. Bennett, Monroe's cam- pus restaurant, the Viking Galley, is open everyday at Lunch with an extensive menu for all. The organiza- tion meets as a class during the day and serves its students with a valuable experience and many hours of training in the restaurant industry. VALKYRIE A Valkyrie representative is selected from each homeroom and they meet once a month to discuss school affairs. Valkrie serves in discussing and solving problems within the school by means of homeroom voting. The Valkrie representative distributes, collects and tallies ballots. Many school problems are able to be solved in this democratic manner. VOCAL ENSEMBLE The Monroe Vocal Ensemble consists of a group of students who have the desire to develop voice tech- niques. During the Fall semester the students learn songs and perform concerts at noon. ln the Spring they learn folk and popular songs and give perfor- mances in Odin's Hall.
